3 December marks International Day of People with Disability, a day that invites all of us to recognise the strengths, support needs and diverse experiences of children and adults living with disability.
At IMIS, we see how parents and carers use gentle, nurturing touch to support their child's comfort, regulation and connection. There is a growing body of research showing that parent-delivered massage can benefit children with additional needs, including those with sensory, developmental or physical challenges. Many parents also report feeling more confident, more connected and better supported through this shared time with their child.
IMIS qualified Infant Massage Instructors and Paediatric Massage Consultants work closely with families, adapting massage techniques to suit each child's cues, sensory preferences and individual needs. Sessions focus on supporting parents to understand their child's responses and build positive, enjoyable touch experiences at home.
If you would like to learn how to massage your child in a way that supports their comfort and development, you are welcome to connect with an IMIS-trained instructor or consultant.
And if you feel called to support families in this meaningful and practical way, we are always happy to share information about our training programs for new instructors and consultants.
Together, we can help all children experience safe, nurturing and reassuring touch.
