What is Canine Distemper Virus? A virus affecting the nervous system, respiratory tract, GI tract, and membranes of the eye. The virus is spread from one dog to another through direct contact with blood, fresh urine, or saliva. Puppies are most at risk of contracting the virus if they have not yet been vaccinated and extremely susceptible to disease. Infected dogs with weakened immune systems can create chances for secondary infections like pneumonia.
