World Su***de Prevention Day 2025
September 10 | Australia
Theme: Changing the Narrative on Su***de

Today, Australia joins the world to honour those lost to su***de, support survivors, and promote hope and understanding.

Sadly, in Australia, su***de remains the leading cause of death among young people. (AIHW, 2025). Nearly half of all Australians have been personally affected by su***de, reminding us that everyone has a role to play in prevention.

Let’s change the narrative together by talking openly, challenging myths, and fighting stigma. Join community events like the Out of the Shadows Walk, and share your story or knowledge to help others.

Early intervention, support and learning the skills to recognise, respond and reach in save lives.

If you are concerned about someone, not sure what to say or what to ask, help is always available. Contact one of the hotlines listed in the image.

National Sorry Day, May 26th.

Parachute Minds stands in solidarity with survivors and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’.

We acknowledge the pain and suffering, intergenerational and ongoing trauma caused by actions like the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, communities and culture.

Self-regulation is learning about your own feelings and emotions, understanding how and why they happen, recognising them (and those of others), and developing effective ways of managing them.

Some key aspects include;
Cognitive self-regulation – this is being able to plan tasks, focus on tasks, pay attention and solve problems.

Behavioural self-regulation – this is being aware of your actions and impulses and managing them so you can act in positive ways and match your behaviour to situations.

Emotional self-regulation – this is tuning in to your emotions and managing them so you can react appropriately to how you’re feeling and what’s happening around you.

International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination
May 17 marks the date in 1990 that homosexuality was removed from the WHO Classification of Diseases. Over three decades later, LGBTQIA+ communities still face discrimination – but every one of us can make a difference. Will you stand against discrimination?

Parachute Minds are proud allies 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

LGBTQIA+ communities often experience stigma, discrimination, bullying, violence and exclusion. As a result, a higher number of people in LGBTQIA+ communities experience poorer social, emotional and psychological wellbeing.

Research indicates a significant overlap between autism and LGBTQIA+ identities. Autistic individuals are more likely to identify as LGBTQIA+ than the general population.

🧡 Harmony Day 🧡 Embracing and celebrating Australia's cultural diversity.

How boring would it be if we were all the same? How bland would our food taste?
Wearing the colour orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and the encouragement of mutual respect. Imagine what you could learn from one another!

Harmony Day on March 21st, coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD).

Ending racism begins with you.

National Close the Gap Day

Australia is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, yet there are substantial inequalities between Australia’s First Nations Peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.

All Australians should be able to enjoy a world-class health system that is free of systemic racism and directed at closing the gap between Australia’s First Peoples and non-Indigenous Australian’s life expectancy.

We stand in solidarity with First Nations peoples and recognise we all have a role to play. Please stand with us by signing the petition to ensure health and wellbeing equality for First Nations Peoples. https://closethegap.org.au/petitions

Tragically each day in Australia 9 people died by su***de. That is 9 too many.

150 people attempt su***de. (Source AIHW Australia 2025).

We can work together to keep each other safe, and provide better outcomes and safer communities.

The National Su***de Prevention Strategy is evidence based provided by those with a lived or living experience of su***de together with medical and mental health professionals.

If you suspect someone may be having thoughts of su***de; ask them directly.
One of the biggest myths about su***de is 'you cannot talk about su***de, you will put the idea in their head' FALSE.

Talking safely about su***de is one way to keep the person with thoughts of su***de safe. The more we talk about it the list stigma and the more vulnerable people in pain will open up.

Today and always we stand in solidarity with First Nation Australian’s. We acknowledge that today is a day of mourning, invasion and survival for a lot of people.

It is also not the date to celebrate and we encourage you to join in an sign the petition via https://www.clothingthegaps.com.au/pages/not-a-date-to-celebrate

Other things you can do, is learn what Aboriginal land you are on, support Blak businesses, follow and support First Nation artists and activists, listen to truth telling or go to a First Nations event. For mob in Melbourne (Naarm) share the spirit festival event is on today.

Always was and always will be Aboriginal land and sovereignty was never ceded.
