Which Chiropractic technique is right for you?

Chiropractic care isn’t “one-size-fits-all.”

At True Health, we prioritise individualised care, ensuring that treatment is tailored to the specific needs of each patient.

The technique used in any given session is typically selected based on factors such as the patient’s age, health status, and personal preferences.

Chiropractors are trained in various methods, some of which are gentle and low-force, while others involve more traditional manual adjustments.

The most effective approach can vary from person to person, allowing for personalized treatment that best suits individual needs.

The Activator Method is a widely used instrument-assisted technique that delivers controlled, low-force impulses to specific areas of the spine or joints. This method is suitable for:

✅ Ideal for those who prefer a softer touch
✅ Great for kids and elderly patients
✅ Patients with health conditions requiring low-force

Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT) involves the use of padded blocks placed under the pelvis to help the spine and nervous system return to balance naturally. This technique is beneficial for:

✅ Patients with postural imbalances.
✅ Individuals experiencing pelvic misalignment or spinal tension.
✅ Those seeking a gentle and non-invasive approach.

The Thompson Technique uses a specialised drop table, where specific sections of the table lower slightly as the chiropractor applies pressure. This technique is useful for:

✅ Patients who require a lighter, controlled adjustment.
✅ Individuals with pelvic or spinal alignment concerns.
✅ Those who prefer a method with reduced force impact.

The Diversified Technique is the most commonly used method. It involves precise hands-on spinal manipulations to improve mobility and function. This approach is often suitable for:

✅ Patients with restricted joint movement.
✅ Individuals with chronic back or neck discomfort.
✅ Those who are comfortable with traditional spinal adjustments.

Chiropractic care involves a variety of techniques, each with its own benefits.

Have you heard of Frozen Shoulder? 🦾

Chiropractic Care might Help

Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition that causes pain, stiffness, and reduced range of motion in the shoulder joint.

It typically develops gradually and can take months or even years to fully resolve. 🤨

While the exact cause is not always known, frozen shoulder often occurs after periods of immobility due to injury, surgery, or conditions like diabetes.

Chiropractic care is commonly sought for joint and mobility-related conditions, and some studies suggest that manual therapy may help improve function and pain levels in individuals with frozen shoulder.

Research published in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders found that joint mobilisation techniques could enhance shoulder mobility and reduce stiffness in affected individuals (Vermeulen et al., 2011). 🏤

While treatment outcomes can vary, chiropractic care may assist by:

- Improving joint movement through specific mobilisation techniques.
- Reducing muscular tension with soft tissue therapy.
- Enhancing postural alignment to minimise strain on the shoulder joint.
- Providing exercise-based recommendations to maintain mobility between sessions.

Frozen shoulder progresses through three distinct stages:

1. Freezing Stage – Increasing pain and stiffness, making movement progressively harder. 🥶
2. Frozen Stage – Pain may lessen, but range of motion remains limited.
3. Thawing Stage – Gradual improvement in mobility as the shoulder recovers.

Some individuals with severe cases of frozen shoulder may require additional interventions such as massage, acupuncture, physiotherapy, hydrodilatation, or, in rare cases, surgery.

Consistency with home exercises and lifestyle modifications is essential for improving outcomes. 🏃

While chiropractic care is not a ‘cure’ for frozen shoulder, it may help improve joint mobility and pain management in some cases.

A tailored treatment approach, combining manual therapy, movement strategies, and rehabilitation exercises, may assist in reducing symptoms and restoring function over time.

Massage for Headaches & Migraines.

More effective than you might think.

Tension headaches and migraines are two of the most common neurological complaints, affecting millions of people worldwide.

These conditions can significantly impact daily activities, work performance, and overall quality of life.

While medication is often used for relief, many individuals seek natural, non-invasive alternatives such as massage therapy to manage symptoms and prevent recurring episodes.

Tension headaches are primarily caused by muscle tightness in the neck, shoulders, and upper back.

Prolonged screen time, stress, and poor posture are common triggers.

On the other hand, migraines involve more complex neurological and vascular factors, often presenting with symptoms such as nausea, light sensitivity, and pulsating pain.

Massage therapy works by targeting the underlying causes of headaches and migraines, offering relief in multiple ways:

- Reduces Muscle Tension
- Improves Circulation
- Lowers Stress Levels
- Enhances Sleep Quality

A 2016 study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that regular massage therapy sessions reduced migraine frequency and severity.

Another study in the American Journal of Public Health reported that individuals who received massage therapy for tension headaches experienced significant reductions in pain duration and intensity.

Which technique is right for you?

Craniosacral Therapy – A gentle technique focusing on the head and spine to release tension and improve fluid flow.

Trigger Point Therapy – Targets specific areas of muscle tightness that may be causing referred pain.

Myofascial Release – Loosens the connective tissue to improve mobility and reduce discomfort.

If you suffer from frequent headaches or migraines, exploring massage therapy as part of your wellness routine can provide a natural, effective way to reduce pain, improve circulation, and enhance overall well-being.

🎉🎉 Thank you for 25 years! 🎉🎉

Dr Katelyn Jacka has spent the past 28 years dedicating her career to chiropractic care, and 25 of those years building True Health into the trusted practice it is today. 🤯

From entering chiropractic college straight out of school — when the program crammed two three-year degrees into five — to navigating early career challenges, Katelyn’s journey has been anything but conventional.

After working with two chiropractors in Queensland, she returned to Melbourne, where an unfortunate experience with an unethical employer pushed her to forge her own path. 🏃

At just 26, she opened True Health on 1 April 2000. Renting for the first three years, she later bought the building, even living upstairs before transforming the entire space into the thriving practice it is today. 🏤

With a keen interest in paediatrics, Katelyn pursued an additional two years of study post-graduation to earn a Diplomate in Paediatric Neurodevelopment. 👶

While children’s care is her passion, she thrives on treating a wide range of conditions, from chronic pain and new injuries to autoimmune and menopausal issues.

“I still see most patients as new toys to play with,” she jokes, reflecting her enthusiasm for problem-solving and tailored treatments. 😂

Grateful for her long-serving, passionate team, Katelyn credits True Health’s success to the people, both staff and patients, who have supported it.

“I’m lucky because I still love my job and believe our bodies are incredible, self-healing machines that sometimes just need a little help.” ❣️

With no plans to slow down (debt keeps her motivated!), Katelyn looks forward to many more years of doing what she loves — helping people feel their best.

If you have any questions reach out, our chiropractors are more than happy to answer any questions you may have!
