Last week we were lucky enough to welcome Justin from the Global Fitness Institute to Activate, where he put our EPs through their paces with an awesome boxing session

Boxing is a fun, engaging way to build cardiovascular fitness, upper body strength, and power. It’s also a fantastic option for those who may need to reduce lower body loading, making it an accessible and versatile training tool for people across the lifespan.

Big thanks to Justin for sharing his expertise with the team!

Quarterly team social done right!

We headed to the Fitzroy Bowls Club for a few games of lawn bowls… and quickly realised it’s harder than it looks

Despite the rain trying to ruin the plan, we managed to get a couple of games in, followed by a BBQ, some drinks in the sun (when it finally came out), and a few very questionable games of pool.

Safe to say, we’re better clinicians than bowlers.

Always great to step away from the clinic, spend time together, and build the kind of connection that carries back into the way we work as a team.

Exercise is one of the most powerful tools we have in managing Parkinson’s Disease.

Ivan is 56 years old and was diagnosed with Parkinson's 15 years ago. Under the guidance of our Exercise Physiologist, Aislinn he has been putting in the work with targeted, high-effort exercise designed to support his movement, strength and overall function

For people living with Parkinson’s, exercise can:
✔️ Improve both motor and non-motor symptoms
✔️ Support better movement, balance and coordination
✔️ Play a role in slowing disease progression

At Activate, sessions are individualised based on each person’s presentation, using approaches that focus on:
🔹 Recalibrating movement (amplitude, scale and symmetry)
🔹 High-effort, high-output training to drive neurological change
🔹 Agility, balance and falls prevention

Ivan is a great example of what consistent, targeted exercise can achieve.

💭 Does strength training actually help osteoarthritis?

A recent meta-analysis suggests it has limited impact on pain and only moderate improvements in function…

But when you take a closer look at the studies, there’s a bigger question:

👉 Were they actually doing real strength training?

In this episode, we break down:

What the research says

Where it may fall short

Why underloading could be the real issue

And what effective strength training should actually look like

Because not all “strength programs” are created equal and dosage matters.

Although Eleni is currently preoccupied with much more important things, baby Aria, she is still a core part of Activate.

As our very first employee, Eleni’s contribution has been immense. She has helped shape our culture and mentored countless staff, setting the standards for care and professionalism.

Exercise Physiology Student of the Year- Sophie!

We’re excited to announce Sophie from Deakin University as our EP Student of the Year for 2025!

We’ve had a long standing connection with Deakin and Sophie is another example of the high- quality students they send our way. Sophie was a standout student as she was enthusiastic, proactive, and eager to learn.

Sophie brought genuine care to every client in our Student Clinic and was a great addition to our culture.

We believe in giving students the best learning experience and Sophie was mentored by our experienced Clinical Educator, Quinton during her placement with us.

Well done on all your hard work Sophie.
