Why is this research being conducted?
This research project aims to better understand the social experience of living with type 1 diabetes.

We are interested in how type 1 diabetes affects your interactions in a range of contexts (such as among friends/family, in the workplace or healthcare settings). These interactions are important as research shows poor social experiences are linked to increased diabetes burden and keeping glucose levels within target becomes harder.

Why have I been approached?
We are seeking participants who are aged 18 years or older, who live in Australia, New Zealand, UK, United States and Canada and have a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes.

What will happen to the information I provide?

All survey responses are anonymous and will be kept confidential and secured on a password protected computer. The only people who will have access to the transcripts are the researchers named above and Cairnmillar Institute staff who are responsible for secure data storage. The information collected will be presented as part of research theses, and potentially be published in journal articles or conference papers. These reports will have no identifying information due to the anonymous nature of the survey. The data will be kept protected, with no plans to destroy it.

This study has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee at The Cairnmillar Institute and complies with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia, 2007).
