If you're a client of mine, then you've no doubt heard me prattle on about Dr Mate`s work and his latest book, "The Myth of Normal."
What may be described as his magnum opus (written in collaboration with his son, Daniel) this book is long overdue in the context of our current times.
This hefty but highly readable tome explores and connects all aspects of psychological trauma from the biological, to early environment and unmet core developmental needs, to culture, society, and the decimating impacts of colonialism, and capitalism run amok on our minds and bodies (bodymind).
If you read one book this year, let this be the one! Mate` knows how to write and never shies away from using his own lived experience and human vulnerability as teacher and example.
Along with Bessel Van Der Kolk's 'The Body keeps the Score,' and Judith Herman's 'Trauma and Recovery,' this one is destined to be a classic in the trauma literature.
Look at me...prattling on again ๐
Too important not share with you all! Louise ๐๐
