Hip labral tears are an under-recognized issue in grappling sports like BJJ—despite no published studies, they’re clinically real and linked to deep flexion, adduction and internal rotation loading. Positions like closed guard and leg entanglements can stress the labrum, especially in athletes with FAI or hip dysplasia. Early assessment, targeted mobility work, and pelvic stability training are key to staying on the mats.
