Wise mummas know it’s not just about avoiding listeria; it’s about embracing the nutrition that empowers your baby’s future, focusing on the nourishing foods that set up our little ones for a lifetime. The ‘first 1000 days’ offer a once-in-a-lifetime chance to positively influence your baby’s health, a period that’s becoming more recognised for its impact on a child’s life. Reflecting on our grandparents’ generation, where hardly anyone took prenatal vitamins, we now understand the huge difference nutrition makes. Imagine the transformative difference we could see in the next generation if every mumma received personalised advice from a prenatal dietitian—what a world of change we could foster!

If you agree, type ‘1000 days’ in the chat below, and please share this post with your friends to help us get the message out there!

Feeling guilty about not following a strict diet is the old way of living with PCOS. I understand why you may still feel this way….there’s still loads of people who think you simply need black and white solutions, such as ‘losing weight’ or ‘cutting out sugar’ to fix your PCOS symptoms.

But, if these quick fixes worked, then everyone with PCOS would adhere to them. Instead, they simply lead to confusion and frustration. Additionally, these quick fixes, not only make you feel guilty for ‘not doing enough’ but they end up depriving you of important PCOS nutrients, and often exacerbating your symptoms!

PCOS guidelines tell us that the best intervention for PCOS is personally tailored advice by an Accredited Practising Dietitian. PCOS is a complex hormonal condition so you need an assessment by an expert who can assess your PCOS history, your personal symptoms, other medical conditions you may have, your lifestyle, your goals, your food preferences and more. Without an expert-led dietetic assessment, you won’t know whether ‘cutting out sugar’ or ‘losing weight’ will be beneficial for you, or whether you require a completely different strategy (which my guess is, you probably will!).

So, if you’re tired of PCOS symptoms, and want to get some REAL results, do you really want to blindly try some quick fix diet or do you want to finally get some personally tailored expert advice?

Over the past 20 years, our Nutrition Plus dietitians have collectively assisted over 1200 women improve their PCOS. To find out whether we are someone you can help, DM us now 😊.

We all know that our fertility starts to decline after the age of 35, and with that threat ringing in your ears, I find that women often run to Fertility Specialists if they don’t conceive straight away. And whilst seeing a Fertility Specialist early on is something we encourage so that any risks are identified early, it’s important to remember that IVF can’t increase your egg count, improve the quality of your eggs or optimise the receptivity of your uterus. That is up to you!

One of the worst things that can happen is being in a situation whereby you need IVF, but haven’t started optimising your egg and uterine health through nutrition early enough, as then it can be really difficult to conceive. More specifically, low grade inflammation can cause chromosomal damage to your eggs and reduce the receptivity of your uterus.

There are heaps of small tweaks that you can make to your dietary intake that make a ginormous difference when it comes to reducing inflammation, but I have five favourites that I like to start with. I’m going to give you one today as I don’t want to overwhelm you, and with this one change alone, if you’re doing it right, you can expect it to start reducing low grade inflammation within a week.

So, what I want you to do is to access a food composition database (from somewhere like the Food Standards of Australia and New Zealand) and add up how much omega 3 you are consuming each week. Step 2 is to boost your intake of foods which are rich in long chain omega 3, such as fish to ensure that you are consuming at least 3500mg per week.

Now the reason that I recommend per week instead of per day is that omega 3 will stay in your body, so it’s not something that you need to consume daily. Also, my preference is for you to consume it from food rather than supplements. Because omega 3 is a type of fat, it easily turns rancid in supplements so the doses written on the packs can’t really be trusted.

Omega 3 works on inflammation like water on a fire, dampening it to temper the flames and achieve regulation.

If you’re over 35 and you’d like assistance to boost your fertility, DM us to learn how our experienced dietitians can support you.

Hiding veggies in your toddler’s bolognaise is the old way to deal with picky eating. I understand why you did it….you love your little one and you know that veggies are good for them. It’s so great that you care so much and want your child to get the benefit of good nutrition.

But, let me ask you…does hiding their veggies make them any less fussy? Or do you have to hide their veggies again next time? Hiding veggies doesn’t treat fussy eating, it just prolongs it….and you don’t want to still be hiding veggies in their food when they are 18, do you?!

Research shows us that the best way to reduce fussy eating and broaden our little one’s range of foods is to expose them regularly to the foods that we want them to eat, so when we hide veggies in their bolognaise (or other foods) we’re unintentionally exacerbating the problem.

So, next time you’re making spag bol, what are you going to do? Prolong their fussiness? Or help them take the first step of familiarisation with vegetables?

At Nutrition Plus, we’ve helped hundreds of children improve their fussy eating. To learn more about how we can help, DM us today!

Eating during pregnancy is like nurturing a veggie garden….if you never water it or tend to it, you may still get a few small tomatoes or strawberries, but the more you tend to it, the better fruits and veggies you’ll end up with!

So, if you want to give your baby the best start in life, what do you think is going to make a bigger difference….the most expensive pram you can find? Or fine-tuning your diet during pregnancy?

If you answered the later, and you’d like assistance honing your pregnancy diet, then comment 'Garden' for details on how to book.
