These include Child Centred Play Therapy and Dyadic therapy (parent/caregiver and child), which is attachment based. My name is Kate Hill, and I am a qualified Social Worker, play therapist and a mother of two young children. I am so excited to be able to provide a space that can promote healing, repair and connection for our little ones and families. I am based in Mount Waverley, south-east Melbo
urne (Myothrive), and the clinic is easily accessible by public transport. Since completing my Post-graduate Social Work qualifications in 2010 (BSW), and my work has strongly centred on supporting families with young children, across various services and settings. I have worked within the statutory setting (Child Protection) as well as the Primary education setting in recent years, where my focus has been on family and well-being support, complex mental health support, behavioural support, trauma informed practice and Child Centred Play Therapy (CCPT). As a Play Therapist I focus on supporting families and children therapeutically (ages 3-11), utilising evidence-based child centred play-based therapy (CCPT). This is firmly underpinned by attachment theory, inter-personal neurobiology child developmental theory. Through utilising the child’s natural form of communication (play), CCPT enables me as a play therapist, to enter the world of the child and follow their lead. It enables a genuine and trusting relationship to form, as well as allowing the child to communicate their big feelings and behaviours, using toys as their words. Through my use of empathy and attunement, I able to support nervous system regulation for the child (and/or parent/caregiver), in a safe, secure and predictable environment. This can then help the child (and/or parents/caregivers) to work towards repatterning and integrating their inner troubles/feelings, as well as finding new ways to cope and thrive in their worlds. I offer both CCPT (child and therapist) and play-based dyadic therapy (attachment based with child and carer/caregiver). Both approaches aim at enhancing attunement and connection for children and their families. I really look forward to getting to know you and your little ones. Kate Hill has completed a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW, La Trobe University) and completed the Advanced Clinical Program in Child Centred Play Therapy. She is also registered with APTA (Australian Association of Play Therapy and AASW Australian Association of Social Workers).
