In preparation for the 30th Annual OT conference next week in Cairns, thought I'd highlight why transitioning into corporate injury management can be a beneficial next step in an occupational therapist's career...
1. Holistic approach: OR case management allows OTs to take a broader perspective on clients' needs by considering their medical, functional, and vocational aspects.
2. Coordination of care: OR case management involves coordinating services and resources for clients, collaborating with healthcare professionals, insurers, employers, and other stakeholders. OTs in this role can ensure a cohesive and comprehensive approach to support clients in their recovery and return to work process.
3. Professional growth and diversification: Moving into OR case management allows OTs to expand their professional horizons and diversify their skill set. It offers an opportunity to work in different settings, engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, and gain a broader understanding of the healthcare and rehabilitation field.
OR case management requires critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. OTs transitioning into this role can further develop their skills by analysing complex cases, developing rehabilitation plans, and collaborating with various stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes.
