I will not stop talking about insulin resistance & blood sugar 🔥

Because it’s the missing fertility piece I see more often than not in clinic.

And the research backs it up. A 2021 study looked at a group of ‘lean’ women without PCOS who were struggling to conceive & 37% had undiagnosed blood sugar issues.

That’s not a small number.

And here’s the thing. Fasting blood sugar alone won’t catch it. You need fasting insulin too - and sometimes a few other markers - for an accurate picture. This is something I help my clients organise all the time, and it’s one of the first things I look at.

The outcomes can be life-changing.

I had a client who’d been trying to conceive for 18 months. We discovered she had insulin resistance, despite a completely normal fasting blood sugar result. She adjusted her diet and started exercising more consistently, and three months later, the cycle before her scheduled IVF, she was pregnant naturally.

So if you’re still wondering why it hasn’t happened yet, there may be some stones left unturned.

I’d love to help you find them.

Top tips for PCOS girlies 🤍

Getting a diagnosis of PCOS can be super overwhelming.
Especially with how much information is out there.

But if you start with some simple basics, you’ll be doing your hormones a world of good without having to change everything overnight.

Blood sugar issues are the most common driver of PCOS.

So here’s some easy tips to start that are based around blood sugar balance.

1. The order you eat your food matters. Eating your non-starchy veggies first, your protein second, and your carbs last, helps to balance your blood sugar after a meal, which leads to happier hormones (bonus points for adding more veggies to your meals)

2. Get your body in line with a healthy day/night rhythm - having all your meals earlier in the day helps align your bodies circadian rhythm, which leads to better hormonal control. This might look like breakfast within 60 mins of waking, and your last meal of the day around 6PM.

3. Vinegar before meals - mixing a TBS of vinegar (any will do, but I like apple cider) before meals in some water helps to reduce your blood sugar spike after your meal. Healthier blood sugar = balanced hormones.

4. Get some physical activity after your meals - this might look like a light stroll, some squats on the spot, or a little dance party. Movement before or after meals helps to stabilise blood sugar.

I hope you find this tips helpful 🤍

Save them so you don’t forget.
And follow along for more realistic advice.

Hormones are everything when you are TTC.

Your hormones signal your beautiful eggs to start growing.

Your hormones pull the trigger for ovulation. And if you ain’t ovulating, no way those s***m can reach that egg.

And after ovulation, you need to make adequate progesterone to conceive and maintain a pregnancy.

This is why hormone testing is a central part of my process when helping clients understand their fertility.

And these little questions give me clues as to where to look first.

If you think your hormones may need a helping hand, you’re not alone.

Once we understand where your hormones are at - we can nourish them in the exact right way to bring things back into harmony.

And that’s when most of my clients find out they are pregnant

Another year older, another year wiser

Honest reflections on turning 33 and another year as a naturopath - including some things I genuinely never thought I’d say.

At uni you’re taught in black and white. Real life is a lot more grey. And I think that’s actually a good thing.

See the slides for the full reflection (including some TMI as always). And if any of it resonates, I’d love to hear which one. 🤍

Today on ANZAC Day, I want to honour my grandfather - my Zaida, Gunner.

As a teenager in Perth, he left his family to fight for Australia in WWII. He was famously known to say: “we got shot at, and Sh*t at.” His war stories were gory and terrifying - but at the end of every one, he’d also say: “no matter where you’re from, we all bleed the same blood.”

My Zaida was a brave soldier who went on to live a long and full life. He passed away last year at 104.

Today I remember his service - and the service of all the men and women who have fought for this country. Especially those who sacrificed everything.

Lest we forget. 🌿

Here’s what I eat before and after a workout (and why)

Because before we get started, too many of my clients are smashing their exercise goals but seriously under-eating without realising it

And they have no idea why they are tired, craving carbs and have irregular periods.

Then once they start eating more -> they feel better -> their hormones are happier.

So here’s a little snapshot. I don’t do it perfectly. But I try.

I probably shouldn’t say I have a favourite type of appointment… but I do. 🤍

It’s the one right at the end of pregnancy, when we’ve been on this whole journey together. Often from preconception. And instead of winding down, we’re gearing up for what’s next.

Because the fourth trimester is real, and it deserves just as much attention as the nine months before it.

Swipe to see exactly how we prepare. Because walking into postpartum with a plan feels so different to figuring it out as you go.

And if you’re pregnant right now, or deep in the postpartum fog wondering why nobody told you it would feel like this - I see you. I’ve been there too.

You don’t have to hold all of this on your own.

Honestly? TTC doesn’t have to feel like a full-time research job 🤍

But there are a few things that have changed - things we actually know now - that are worth paying attention to.

So I put together a little swipe guide for you. The stuff I genuinely wish more women knew before they started trying.

Things like why your prenatal might need a swap, why your dentist is lowkey part of your fertility team, and why no app will ever know your body better than you do.

Small shifts. Big difference. Best outcomes.

If you’re ready to stop Googling at midnight and actually have a plan that’s built around you - a free intro call is a great place to start. Link in bio to book yours. 💛

How I spend my birthday as a Fertility Naturopath

Because as I get older, I know that looking out for my hormone health is the greatest gift I can give myself.

Even if I’m not trying for a Bebe.

But of course there will be cake. And lots of it.

This year I can’t wait to help even more of you with your baby making and baking.

Feeling extra grateful today to my amazing clients. Thanks for having me as part of your journey and for your beautiful birthday messages.
