Did you know that your skin is HORMONAL?!

So if your hormones are NQR (not quite right),
what is going on at the border of you - your skin -
could be a contributing factor.

Not many people think of the skin as an active endocrine tissue– both receiving and emitting !

The skin and its various cell types produce equivalents of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (which you mean know as our stress hormone axis)
hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis (metabolism axis)
and hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis (reproductive)

your hair follicles & sebum glands produce multiple hormones, too

Vitamin D, s*x steroids, stress steroids, retinoids, cannaboids, and opioids.
substance P,
Growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor
oxytocin,
and melatonin

as well as having receptors for these mediators

Skin microbiome also influences hormones!

Light, temperature, touch, movement, sound
electrical potential (you are an electrical being, and your skin holds it all together!)
chemical factors

all play a part...

so choose your skin products carefully,
massage your skin to your favourite music
make sure you're well hydrated with optimal electrolyte balance
and do your best to avoid synthetic fragrances (on your skin and in the air)

there's many more suggestions, and that is a great start point!

I really love tapping and breathwork, too.

I believe that
Balancing your skin
helps balance your hormones :)

Great skin care can go a very long way!!!

AND PLEASE NOTE -
if you have skin issues, it may be worthwhile assessing if you have a deeper, underlying hormonal imbalance..

Although my suggestions above are helpful for skin,
Whenever possible,
it is crucial to identify the underlying disruption (eg endocrine disorder) to provide root cause corrective treatment for skin symptoms
rather than providing just symptomatic treatment.

Look into my EYES :)

You might know that inside your eyes you have rods and cones (a type of opsin protein unit) that are responsible for vision,

but today I want to offer you something NEW that you may have never realised!

woohoo! 👏

Have you ever heard of intrinsically-photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (that's a real mouthful, let's just call them ipRGCs!)

These cells in your eyes have an entirely different job to vision.

ipRGCs detect light ,and transform it into electrical signals that are sent to the brain, which is very similar to what rods and cones do.

😳But instead of contributing to sight,
these cells are very specialised to pick up on BLUE light wavelengths especially,
and when they do,
the special signals ipRGCs send to our brain influence a wide range of functions;

- from our STRESS RESPONSE to

- mood regulation,

- alertness,

- immune and detox functions

- keeping our internal clock in sync with the day-night cycle (a process known as circadian photoentrainment) to

- influencing our sleep patterns

- and even bone formation!

Other types of opsins are also found across our SKIN!
opsins are not exclusively light sensors --->
the latest research is suggesting that they are intimately involved with our ability to perceive and adapt to our environments
through multiple sensory input

🤩~WOW!

What I find incredibly important here,
and perhaps you will, too,
is that ipRGCs and similar opsins found across our skin
are VERY responsive to BLUE light,
and any exposure to blue light will ACTIVATE pathways of arousal.

Now I am not talking s*xy-time arousal here ;)
Although depending if the lights were on I could be!!!!!!

I am speaking into the arousal where our system is on GO mode

🟦And blue light exposure takes us directly there...
think blue light from your phone, any screen ... at work, in cars, car headlights, street lights, home lights, retail shop lights...

💠basically all human made light sources are enriched with blue light wavelengths....

and these are impacting the signals to your brain,

and your body's ability to respond and adapt to stress

focus, mood, memory are all influenced,

and non-quality sleep is prevalent.

ufff. You resonate?

There's so much more to this story,
but hopefully today could be a great day for you to start noticing what kind of lights are shining through your eyes and onto your skin!

You could wear blue blocking glasses
and cover up as much skin as possible
when not in natural sunlight...

and even try block out glasses when you sleep, I love the ones from True Health Wealth, use code PIA for $5 off!

I am always excited to share the good news about thinking, treating and living in a more empowered, holistic way :)

And I LOVE answering questions!

Celebrating living the dream ... I get to do both at Sydney Beauty Expo 2025 😍

If you could ask anything about the Integration of Health and Wellness in Beauty (eg in clinics, treatments, products, approaches, training) what would you love to know?

If you are in the skin game,
then I know you already know that the beauty/aesthetics/personal care industry plays a vital role in helping to alleviate and treat a variety of skin conditions, as well as promoting overall emotional, mental and physical wellbeing...

and you may also feel that being in the skin game,
and looking after others can be exhausting at times...
I recently offered a 2hour training on Nervous System for clinic, to assist their staff in showing up with more clarity, self awareness and regulation... because they were stuck in a loop of negative self talk, which was flowing out into their work practices.

Do you apply health and wellbeing protocols to yourself?
Is this something you'd love to learn more about?

Let me know if you'll be there in person, and absolutely share with me what questions you'd love to have answered!!

Like in nature, fungi grow in damp, sugary, dark environments, with not much sunlight and airflow.
Your body is no different.

🌞 Studies have shown, that amongst a zillion other positive reasons, morning sunlight on bare skin and eyes (ie no glasses, or contacts) suppresses fungal growth genes

🍻 If you are a drinker - Your liver detoxifies fungal byproducts. Booze overloads it, letting toxins spill into skin.

🍻 Booze also creates more of a stress response in your body (even if you drink 'to relax'!), which makes your skin and gut barriers more leaky. It'll block your healing, basically.

📺 Artificial light (ie screens, TVs, phones) ESPECIALLY at night also create more of a stress response in your skin, and whole body, which changes your body's ability to heal and find balance.

🥙Eating late also does this.

Eating late, drinking and work'life balance stress can all take a toll. I call this chronic stress. In simple terms, chronic stress leads to sympathetic dominance (“fight-or-flight”), which leads to blood sugar imbalances, thought imbalances, addictions etc,
and a “leaky skin/gut”, where toxins enter places they are not meant to, leading to rashes/fungal overgrowth.

🥼Your skin mirrors gut health.

Fix the stressors, heal the gut, heal the skin.

To help you could try -

✔️Breathwork: 4-7-8 breathing (4 sec inhale, 7 hold, 8 exhale) to activate parasympathetic “rest-heal-and-digest” mode.

✔️Movement: Daily 20-min walk outside + stretching. Exercise (especially combined with breathwork!) reduces cortisol and supports detox.

✔️Alcohol Moderation: Aim for at least 2 dry days/week to ease gut and liver burden.

✅Do
Dry skin thoroughly post-shower, especially groin, belly button, underarms, between toes. ZSC powder is great to apply on moist bits afterwards! Use antifungal soap (tea tree or neem-based).

❌Don't
Wear sweaty work or gym clothes. Change as soon as you can. WASH your clothes when they are dirty, don't wear then again.
Wear breathable fabrics (cotton, bamboo).
Change socks/underwear twice daily.

✅Do
use a HEPA air purifier if inside isn't well ventilated/smells musty.

❌Don't
Ignore musty smells/mold spots. UVC lights can help here.

✅Do
Swap beer for spirits (if drinking). Beer will help yeast grow.

❌Don't
Binge on bread, pasta, pizza, pies, beer. They help yeast grow.

✅Do
Sleep 7–8 hrs in pitch darkness. This is REALLY effective

❌so... definitely DON"T
Scroll in bed, or watch TV past 9pm. This will totally change your body's ability to repair

✅DO
Go barefoot at home and outside whenever possible. Use antifungal powder in shoes.

✅DO
use red LED Light therapy (check out these devices, they are awesome and easy to use) https://courses.piakynoch.com/led-light-panels

♻️

Your body is an ecosystem.

Balance the terrain (gut, stress, environment), and fungi can’t thrive.

🥳 Small, consistent shifts create lasting change.

Ready to reset? Start with one of these simple changes today—maybe that morning sunlight walk🌟

and of course I have other epic suggestions and can help your body thrive in more specific ways if we work together 1:!, and this is a solid start point. Please share with anyone you know may need the nudge!

P>S Other non-skin or gastrointestinal symptoms that are seen in individuals with Candida overgrowth include:

😫Fatigue

😫Poor concentration

😫Anxiety

😫Mood swings, depression

😫Anal itching

😫Strong cravings for sweets, alcohol, carbohydrates

❌ VIP INFO! ❌Notice now -- is your tongue resting on or between your teeth, or on the floor of your mouth...

Or if you, or your child, has a tongue tie, or sucks a pacifier or their thumb consistently, has issues swallowing or proper enunciation, crowded teeth, recessed jaw,
or is an audible breather or snorer...

then this can also indicate incorrect tongue position,
and this indicates a CHRONIC STRESS RESPONSE 😳

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW,
and not many practitioners DO know.

A low resting tongue posture can lead to significant and varied health issues throughout the body, impacting the whole lifespan!

An incorrect tongue posture, mouth breathing, or a dysfunctional swallowing pattern can all contribute to a chronic stress response, as the vagus nerve is not being correctly stimulated.

Did you already know that your tongue position influences your whole body?

And that it could be contributing to/causing chronic stress response, leaving you feeling stressed, anxious, poor gut function, snoring, tired, stiff...

or if you are mouth breathing more than ever....
