Ripping the band-aid off with my first post back after maternity leave! Time is wild, my last post was in 2023?
So, I’m officially back in clinic and seeing clients every Tuesday at Sana Skin Clinic in Berwick (3806) — both in person and via Zoom. .skinclinic
Whether you’re a previous client or completely new (Hi!), I’m so excited to support you on your skin journey.
One thing I talk about on repeat is that skin conditions like acne are rarely just a skin issue. What shows up on the skin is often a reflection of what’s happening internally.
Here are the 4 root cause drivers of acne I see in clinic:
1.Hormonal Imbalance
Elevated androgens (like testosterone) can increase sebum production, clog pores and contribute to breakouts.
Hormonal shifts can occur with:
• coming off the pill
• PCOS
• chronic stress
• insulin resistance
2.Blood Sugar Dysregulation
When blood sugar spikes, insulin rises.
This can:
• increase androgen production
• stimulate oil production
• promote inflammation in the skin
3.Gut Inflammation & Dysbiosis
The gut–skin connection is real. When gut health is disrupted, it can drive systemic inflammation that shows up on the skin.
Common signs I see in clinic:
• bloating
• constipation
• food sensitivities
• reflux
4.Impaired Detoxification Pathways
Your liver plays a key role in hormone metabolism and detoxification. When these pathways are sluggish, it may contribute to:
• hormonal imbalance
• increased inflammatory burden
• poor clearance of estrogen metabolites
If you’re experiencing persistent acne or other skin concerns, I’d love to help you discover the root cause.
