We live in a culture that makes it difficult to NOT want to be thinner, prettier, better, smarter. After all, if we were, we will be happier, healthier, get that cute guy/girl, live happily ever after, right? 🤔 If we look more closely we find that what we really want is to belong and to be loved. And the best place to start is with our own selves. Accepting and loving ourselves is what really brings the happy ending.

What would you add to this list? What does food mean to you?

Food means a lot of different things, to a lot of different people.

Some things to remember:

🌿Food is more than nutrients
🌿Food and humans are extremely complex
🌿Food is more than just calories
🌿New science is constantly being uncovered on food, nutrition and health
🌿There is no 1 size fits all approach to anything food or nutrition related
🌿Food is more than just fuel

Posted • Improving your body image doesn’t come from a rulebook of tips & tricks.⁣

The best piece of advice I can offer you is to get away from trying to improve it.⁣

If you’ve been struggling with your body image for years, if not decades & you spend your days obsessed with the yes’s & no’s of the latest dieting trend, how many calories you can burn or steps you can take & sit on your phone at night scrolling through old pictures when you were smaller wishing you could JUST get back there — *it’s time to take a break*. ⁣
To breath. ⁣
To break the loathing & judgmental pattern that’s running on auto-pilot. Because you actually can break it — if you’re aware of it & want to.⁣

Healing your relationship with your body & improving your body image comes from opening yourself up to other areas of your life, imagining & going for what’s possible for you *now* (not when you lose weight) acknowledging what you’re really worth & believing in who you really are.⁣

When my life became more purposeful, when I worked on the relationship I have with myself, championing who I am (not what I’m not) & realized the potential I was holding myself back from with an endless fight with food + body, my body image changed for the better.⁣

Because your body image is just that, an image.⁣
If the only thing you care about is what you weigh, the size jeans you wear, how much weight you’ve gained or haven’t lost — that will be your image.⁣
But if you care about the incredible friend you are, the things you excel at in your career, family or life, the people you care for, the activities you are lit up by, the time you spend being kind to + bettering yourself & building a healthy heart + soul — that will be your image.⁣

I don’t believe in body love.⁣
I believe in self-love.⁣
I believe in creating an environment for yourself & your mind that builds a better body image.✌🏼

The only food rule you need going into the week is to LET GO of all the food rules.

Let go of rigid food rules.

Let go of guilt and good/bad thinking about food.

Let go of the fear you’ll gain weight and lose control of your eating.

Letting go of diet mentality frees up more space for positive eating experiences. Food becomes more enjoyable and effortless and uncomfortable fullness become a thing of the past.

May your week be filled with love, laughter and plenty of deliciously nourishing meals!!

Happy Friday lovelies!

Cauliflower rice is a lower calorie option to rice, also note that lower carb just means lower energy. Meaning, you’ll likely feel less full after your meal and hungry soon after.

Real rice has some pretty neat benefits:
🍚Fuller for longer
🍚High in fibre
🍚Good source of energy
🍚Controls blood sugar
🍚Contains magnesium, iron, zinc…

If you’re going to eat rice, eat the real thing. You’ll ultimately be more satisfied!

You are so much more than your body.

Your appearance has nothing to do with your health, happiness, and ability to be loved.

Your self-worth is not dependant on how your body looks.

You are more than what you see. You are a light, an energy, a ray of sunshine.

You are valuable.

You deserve love.

Be kind to yourself and your body.

Posted • The times in my life when I’ve lost weight, I wish someone would have asked me how I really felt.⁣

Instead of congratulating & praising me — telling me how good I looked & asking me for tips + advice.⁣

I wish I could have told them how little I was eating & that I was hungry all the time.⁣
That I had to chew gum in between meals so I wouldn’t think about how badly I wanted to eat.⁣
That I was terrified to go-off plan, or miss a workout, or eat from the bread basket at dinner.⁣

That it felt amazing to step on the scale & see a smaller number, but that I worried every day about it going back up. And that if it did, I felt like a failure.⁣

That I still obsessed about my body.⁣

And that I thought my life would change, when I got here, but that it really didn’t.⁣

There is nothing wrong with you if you want to lose weight.⁣
I think when we’re taking care of ourselves (& there’s a difference between taking care of ourselves & dieting) both physically, mentally & emotionally we may lose weight if that’s healthy for your bod.⁣

But there’s a difference between doing it our of force & sacrifice — and it happening as a side effect to pursuing a positive lifestyle.⁣

Losing weight didn’t make me a confident person.⁣
Voicing my message, standing up for myself & putting myself out there did.⁣
Losing weight didn’t make me a happier person.⁣
Finding purpose & passion and deep connections with others did.⁣
Losing weight didn’t fix my problems.⁣
My life changed when I realized I didn’t need to be fixed.⁣

All I want for you is to take a break from the pursuit. To take the *need* to change your body off the table so you can see clearly for the first time.⁣
To feel the space & energy that’s freed up from obsessing every moment of every day about food & your body.⁣
To find the things that make your life full. And to be present for them.⁣

TB to my holiday in Seattle (many moons ago now)

TW ⚠️⚠️⚠️
When this photo was taken, I was enjoying my delicious mouthwatering meal. Still to this day, probably one of the best fish n chips I’ve ever eaten. Shoutout to restaurant!

As soon as the meal was over, I was filled with such intense emotions (guilt, shame, disgust) followed by highly critical thoughts (I’ve eaten so much, I feel so fat, How can I compensate for what I have just eaten?).

When I had thoughts and emotions such as these, my behaviors would typically lead me to either exercising more or eating less food.

Soo…..The next day, I skipped breakfast and at lunch, I didn’t eat much. 2 hours later, I felt extremely lethargic, lightheadedness, unable to concentrate and NEEDED FOOD ASAP!

Our bodies do not appreciate NOR are able to handle compensatory eating behaviors or restriction of any kind – hence why my body felt so horrible after not properly nourishing my body.

If this story sounds all too familiar to you, here are a few things to consider;

👉 Acknowledge and honour your hunger (every day)
👉 Avoid skipping meals or going long periods without eating
👉 Show kindness towards yourself like you would to a friend
👉 One meal or one day or one week of eating does not make a huge difference, consider looking at you’re eating over a month rather than meal by meal
👉 Guilt and shame have no place in your eating experience

Enjoy eating your favourite foods without a side of guilt or shame.
