Septoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct a deviated septum in the nose. The septum is the cartilage and bone structure that divides the nasal cavity into two nostrils. A deviated septum occurs when the septum is significantly off-centre, making one nasal passage smaller than the other. This can lead to breathing difficulties, nasal congestion, recurrent sinus infections, nosebleeds, and snoring.

During septoplasty surgery, the surgeon adjusts the nasal septum to straighten it and improve airflow through the nostrils. This procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. In some cases, septoplasty might be performed in conjunction with rhinoplasty, a cosmetic procedure that reshapes the nose for aesthetic reasons.

It's important to note that while septoplasty can improve breathing difficulties caused by a deviated septum, it may not always completely eliminate all nasal symptoms. It's essential to consult with an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist surgeon to determine the most appropriate treatment for individual cases.

Alarplasty, also known as alar base reduction or nostril reduction, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that aims to reshape and reduce the size of the nostrils.

During an alarplasty, a plastic surgeon makes small incisions at the base of the nostrils, where they meet the cheeks, and then removes a wedge-shaped piece of tissue. This tissue removal narrows the nostrils and can also help improve the symmetry of the nose if one nostril is larger than the other. After the tissue is removed, the incisions are carefully closed with sutures, and the scars are typically well-hidden in the natural creases of the nostrils.

Alarplasty is is often done as part of a rhinoplasty to achieve a more balanced nasal appearance.

We recommend doing your research and obtaining
a second opinion from a qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeon or ENT surgeon should you wish to .

In some cases, a broken nose may require rhinoplasty to properly realign and repair the nasal structures. Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves reshaping or reconstructing the nose for various reasons, including functional and cosmetic concerns. Here are some considerations:

Severity of the Break: If the broken nose is mild and the bones are not significantly displaced, non-surgical treatment such as realignment by a medical professional may be sufficient. However, if the break is more severe and the bones are significantly misaligned, surgical intervention may be necessary.

Functional Issues: A broken nose can lead to breathing difficulties if the nasal septum (the cartilage dividing the two nostrils) is affected. If the septum is deviated or obstructed, it can cause breathing problems that may require surgical correction. This functional aspect of a broken nose can be addressed during rhinoplasty.

Cosmetic Concerns: If the break has resulted in a noticeable deformity, rhinoplasty may be performed for cosmetic reasons to restore the nose's appearance.

Timing: In some cases, immediate surgical intervention may be necessary to realign the broken bones and prevent long-term issues. Delaying treatment could lead to healing in a misaligned position, making corrective surgery more complex later on.

Medical Evaluation: It's important to have a medical evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional, such as an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat specialist), to assess the severity of the break and determine the appropriate course of action.

Ultimately, whether or not you need rhinoplasty for a broken nose depends on the specifics of your case. It's essential to seek medical attention promptly after a suspected or confirmed broken nose to receive the appropriate treatment and recommendations for your situation.
