As parents we can be so hard on ourselves. That feeling of going to bed at night thinking that you haven’t done enough or been enough for your kids that day.

Yes it’s important to connect and build strong relationships with our kids but the juggle can be really hard, and our ole friend guilt can just creep right on in.

But here’s the thing! You don’t have to give your child your undivided attention every moment of the day.😅

According to neuroscientist Dr Jaak Panksepp there are key moments during the day that are the most impactful on our child’s emotional well-being….and all it takes is 9mins.

So if you are feeling overwhelmed by all the things in life, then give yourself a break and try to simply focus on genuinely connecting with your child during these 3 moments.

1. That moment when your child first wakes up-make those first 3mins of your child’s day positive and fill them up with all your love to carry them through their day!

2. That moment when you are reunited with your child maybe after school or work- make those first 3mins of being together again all that matters. Slow down, soak them in and fill them right back up again.

3. And that moment before your child goes to bed- make those last 3mins of their day a reminder of how much you love them. Read, laugh, snuggle and delight in them, so that they go to sleep knowing that they are loved.

They may just be 9mins but those lil moments will make a world of difference for your child and also for you!! 🤍

Hey, I’m Rachel

I thought I should probably take a moment and introduce myself as the face behind Three Hummingbirds Psychology.

So me in a nutshell…

▫️I live in Melbourne with my hubby, 3 kids (8, 5 and 3yrs) and our golden retriever (and ALL her hair).

▫️I have been a registered psychologist for over 10years. Don’t do the math please!

▫️I don’t drink coffee and never have, which makes coffee dates a tad awkward…hot choc anyone?

▫️According to my hubby, I may in fact be the worlds worst navigator. But having to check which way is left and right with my hands is completely fine, right?

▫️I have a tiny obsession with candles and feel so much more relaxed when I have them going around me.

▫️I find belly buttons creepy and cringe/look away at the sight of ppl touching them. My kids, of course find this very amusing and love to torment me!

Ok that’s enough about me.

If you have any queries at all please feel free to send me a DM or an email at info@threehummingbirdspsychology.com.au

Hummingbirds may be tiny, but they are one mighty little bird. They symbolise the notion that we all have the inner strength needed to face the uncertainties of life.

The hummingbirds' tiny wings beat at lightning speed, enabling them to travel expansive distances. They are also said to be the only birds able to fly backwards, often inspiring others to believe that anything is possible.

In their carefree and happy flight, the hummingbird reminds us to try and live in the present moment and focus on enjoying the small things in life.

When they sleep, the hummingbird can appear lifeless, and as such they remind us to create balance in our life, and to prioritise our own wellbeing.

In native American culture, the hummingbird is seen as a healer and bringer of love and joy. It is said that to sight a hummingbird, is to receive a sign that challenging times are over and healing can begin.

This symbolism of the hummingbird reflects the vision and values of Three Hummingbirds Psychology.

We hope to empower children and their families, to recognise and believe in their individual strengths, to honour their own unique journeys and to be more mindful of the little moments that can have such a big impact on their wellbeing and relationships with others.
