For one mum, having someone in her corner made all the difference. Here’s her journey…

“When my daughter Evie was diagnosed with a disability, I was lost. NDIS felt impossible. Too much paperwork, too many decisions, and I didn’t know where to start.

Then I met Branka from M&A. From day one, she became the voice I didn’t have. She listened, understood, and stood by us every step of the way. She connected us with the right supports, advocated for Evie at school, and reminded me I wasn’t alone.

Branka didn’t just guide us through the process, she gave us hope. She believed in my daughter, and in me, until I could believe in myself too. Because of her, I feel more confident, informed, and supported.

If you’re at the start of this journey, please know you don’t have to do it alone. 💙”

-Vanessa, proud mum to Evie

Let’s welcome one of the fresh faces joining M&A Support Services!

Meet Erin!👋

Erin is 50-something (who’s counting!) and has been married to her partner for 20 years. She calls Melbourne’s Inner West home and loves summer!

With decades of experience in mental health, Erin has worked across adult acute care, psychosocial rehab and even managed a 45-bed facility caring for people who had a range of complexities.

She holds Diplomas in Nursing and Alcohol & Other Drug Work and brings so much knowledge and compassion to her role.

🐾 Proud dog mum to three— from a 50kg Great Dane to a 3kg Japanese Chin (yes, she’ll say hi to your dog too!)

🎮 Loves video games, music (The Cure, Ani Di Franco, The Waifs and more), motorbikes, hiking and even nano blocks!

Erin describes herself as passionate, hardworking and just a little bit goofy.

She’s not afraid to ask tough questions, she wears her heart on her sleeve and she loves bringing a laugh to those around her.

We’re so excited to have Erin join the M&A family 💜

💛 “Hey, are you really okay?”

Sometimes that small question can change everything. You don’t need perfect words, you don’t need to fix it all, just listen, care, and show up.

Reach out to your mates, family, neighbours, or colleagues. Remember, this isn’t just about one day, checking in matters every single day.
If today feels heavy for you, it’s totally okay to reach out too. You’re not meant to carry it alone, and someone will always be there to listen.

Remember it’s okay to ask for support. Someone will always be there to listen and walk with you.

Michael had the best time at an Elvis concert recently… and not only did he enjoy the show, he even got up on stage to sing with “Elvis” himself! 🎤

Moments like these are what it’s all about - enjoying the things you love, trying new experiences, and making memories that last.

We love seeing Michael’s confidence and joy shine through. What a superstar moment!

Your favourite food: Eeeek! there is so much variety... Vietnamese, Turkish and Persian is at the top of the list!

Are you a morning or night person. Before menopause I was a night owl but now I'd say I'm a twilight person.

Favourite holiday destination: Favourite holiday destination was Barocay - such a story to it but just stunning!

If you could be any animal in the world, what would you be and why. A panda because they're cute and I've always wanted to learn Kung Fu!

If you could have dinner with one famous person, who would it be? I'd love to have dinner with Urzila Carlson it would be hilarious!

If you could have one super power what would it be and why? The ability to make people smile!!

Thanks Porsche!

Inclusion starts young.

The best way to build a more inclusive world? Start by teaching kids from the earliest age that disability is a natural part of human diversity.

✨ Disability isn’t weird or scary, it’s human.
✨ We all have similarities and differences. Let’s celebrate them.
✨ Use and teach respectful language, words matter.
✨ Assistive devices aren’t “strange”, they’re tools that help people thrive.

When we teach kids understanding and respect from the beginning, inclusion becomes second nature, not an afterthought.

Let’s raise a generation that doesn’t just tolerate differences, they embrace them.

Eden has been busy on a creative project with his support worker and it’s been a huge hit!

From start to finish, Eden took the lead:
✅ Choosing his own templates and materials
✅ Researching tips and techniques on YouTube
✅ Purchasing supplies and putting it all together
✅ Creating stunning mosaics, all with his own unique touch

And he’s not done yet! Eden’s already working on his next design, refining his skills and trying out new methods.

The best part? His work has sparked so many conversations with other residents and staff with everyone’s asking, “How did you do that, Eden?”

Creativity + connection = exactly what we love to see.

Everyone hears “take a deep breath” or “go for a walk”… but here are 5 underrated strategies for managing anxiety that actually work (even if they sound a little weird!):

✅ The “Ice Trick”: Hold an ice cube in your hand or splash your face with cold water. It shocks your nervous system into the present moment. Fast and effective.
✅ Chew Something Crunchy: Crunchy foods (like carrots or crackers) engage your jaw muscles and signal to your brain it’s safe to “rest and digest.” Bonus: helps with sensory regulation.
✅ Change Your Temperature: Anxious? Drop your body temperature. Cool shower, fan, cold drink...physical regulation helps emotional regulation.
✅ Nervous System “Grounding” Playlist: Not calming music… bass-heavy music. Something rhythmic you can physically feel to “ground” your body. It helps burn anxious energy.
✅ Give Yourself a Job: Anxiety thrives on idleness. Do something low-stakes: fold towels, colour in, w**d a garden bed, organise a drawer. It distracts your brain just enough to calm down.

💬 Have you tried any of these? Let us know what unexpected trick helps you!
