With summer coming up in a few short months, it pays to be prepared for fire season. Pyramid Educational Consultants and the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation (AARBF) are proud to share a new collaborative resource designed to support early learners and individuals with communication challenges.
This year’s USA National Fire Protection Association theme for fire prevention week, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” highlights the importance of using and charging batteries safely. We’ve adapted this message through the FISE (Firefighters In Safety Education) lesson “Toys vs. Tools,” helping children and non-speaking individuals learn the difference between what’s safe to play with and what’s not.
Our new “What is a Toy?” infographic uses simple visuals to teach that items like lighters, batteries, and chargers are tools—not toys—and should never be touched without an adult. By teaching these safety concepts early, we can empower learners to recognize danger and make safe choices.
Fire Safety Education is the first line of defense against fire-related injuries and fatalities. Explore our full NICK Fire & Burn Safety resources, developed for individuals on the autism spectrum, those with developmental disabilities, communication challenges, and preschool-aged children.
