First Nations Cultural Yarning Circle .
 
This was a 3hour cultural immersion interactive session exploring the richness of First Nations culture through storytelling and shared conversation.

With thanks to Brimbank City Council for hosting & special thanks to Uncle Shane Charles for presenting this Yarning circle, and for the smoking ceremony at the end. It was a great experience to build knowledge and deepen cultural awareness in the workplace and community.

Also a big congratulations to Uncle Shane Charles for his induction into the Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll, for his contribution of strengthening communities and celebrating culture. Uncle Shane does a lot for our community and it doesn’t go unnoticed👏

This session was held at The Bowery Gallery , St Albans which is hosting Still here- A Brief History of Aboriginal People in Melbournes West. A powerful exhibition.

Thanks to for Sundays Draw Team. Once a month on a Sunday Nick has a zoom meet for all the people that want to participant in the Draw Team. This week it was unicorns 🦄, next time it will be birds 🦢. It’s not too late if you want to join the Draw Team, there’s no such thing as a mistake. This is a great opportunity for kids to participate at their own pace in the space of their own environment. The draw sheets are then emailed to you to practice another time .

It was a night full of culture, dance and inspiring stories that make our area such a vibrate place to live.

Make One Gift One 🎁🌱🍪
Last year Emily was part of the Brimbank City Council Community Leadership Program, a program put together to learn, grow, inspire and develop a event for local community. The 16 participants put together an event for youth called Make one Gift One. The joy of seeing everything come together on the day and the youth attending happy, was success in everyone’s eyes. Truely an inspiring time to learn and grow with amazing people who are leading the way to make change in our community. Tbc

🌍🤍Last week was the awards night for the Community Leadership Alumni and Grants Event.
I was part of this program last year and our project was for Young people. We had our event in December, a success in itself with young people asking when can we do the next one. Doing this program with strangers and then walking away with new connections, skills and a passion more deep for creating change in our community . Im forever grateful for the opportunity and paths this had lead me to.
Last week was so inspiring to be in a room with others with the same passion, leaders in their own right and change makers. We are doing this for our future , for our children and also for our older generations who deserve equality and access to a life without isolation. You will be surprised at how much your community has to offer if you just look beyond the exterior. Such a proud moment and experience these last few months. Congratulations to all.
