This is the impact of the NDIS price changes

"I want to make the most of my 'capable' time."

Kerry Benson lives with Friedrich’s ataxia, a progressive neurological condition that affects her speech, mobility and swallowing.

With support from the NDIS, Kerry has been able to access home visits from her speech pathologist. This support helps her stay connected to her job, her family and her community.

But proposed NDIS funding cuts now put that vital support at risk.

Kerry’s story, shared through The Senior, is a powerful reminder of how speech pathology changes lives and why it must remain accessible for all Australians who need it.

Thank you Kerry, and thank you to your speech pathologist, Dominique, for sharing this story.

Speech Pathology Australia, alongside other allied health peak bodies, is calling for an urgent review of the NDIS pricing changes coming into effect on 1 July.

PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION BELOW

My business supports children with the most complex physical and medical needs at home, kinders and schools. These children are NDIS participants who rely on the support that I provide to help them learn to communicate their needs, wants and thoughts and to keep them safe and healthy when eating and drinking.

I support these children in their own environments as it’s hard for them to travel to a clinic due to the high complexity of their physical and health needs.

Recent NDIS cuts have made it very difficult for me to continue to do this. The government have run a very well funded and successful campaign to make all NDIS Providers look like money hungry monsters. For most providers who are ethical and fair, this could not be further from the truth.

Allied health providers do not want to be in a position where we are making decisions that can affect someone’s life so drastically. Without support in their own environments my clients will not be able to access services. This means they will not be able to access critical technology for communication or learn the skills that allow them to communicate for themself.

If you have a few minutes to help, there is a petition that you can sign to support our request to government to pause these changes and conduct a proper review that understands the actual impact to the people who matter the most; Australians with disabilties.
