Anyone who has read a bit about mindfulness will know that words and phrases such as paying attention; acceptance; and present centred are often used when talking about mindfulness – sounds wonderful – but what do they mean? When you’re stressed or panicking can you pay attention to what’s going on around you or are you totally focussed on what’s going on internally for you? …trying to escape some difficult feeling inside – not wanting what you’re having – avoidance; in fact, the opposite of acceptance. We need change our mental habits - to teach ourselves to manage the thoughts that create the stress reaction.
Mindfulness tools and techniques can help to bring awareness to intrusive thoughts including the worrying and the procrastination ones - we have a chance of taking control and quieting the distracting mind so we can do what we really want! We can actually get on with those new year’s resolution!
