Meningococcal disease is rare but can become serious very quickly, particularly in babies and young children.

In Victoria, the MenACWY vaccine is funded under the National Immunisation Program for infants at 12 months and adolescents through school-based programs.

Additional vaccines, such as MenB, may also be recommended depending on your child’s age and risk factors.

If you’re unsure what’s included in the schedule - or what else may be recommended - it’s a good time to review your child’s vaccines.

The maternal RSV vaccine is a way to help protect your baby before they are even born.

By receiving the vaccine during pregnancy, protective antibodies are passed to your baby - helping to reduce the risk of severe RSV illness during their most vulnerable early months.

If you’re expecting during the RSV season, it’s worth discussing the timing and options available with your healthcare provider.

The team at FITS Clinic can help guide you through your RSV protection options.

With RSV season approaching, many families are asking what options are available to help protect their baby.

Some infants may be eligible for RSV protection through maternal vaccination during pregnancy or infant protection programs after birth, depending on individual circumstances.

This may include:
• Babies whose mother did not receive the RSV vaccine during pregnancy
• Babies entering their first RSV season
• Infants with certain medical risk factors

Understanding eligibility early can help families plan ahead before the winter virus season begins.

For many families, this will be their baby’s first winter ❄️

Many travel vaccines are recommended based on where you’re travelling, not how long you’ll be there.

If you’re planning a holiday, business trip or visiting family overseas, a travel health consultation can help ensure you and your family are protected before departure.

Book a travel consult with the team at FITS Clinic to review recommended vaccines and travel health advice.

RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is a common respiratory virus that spreads more widely during the cooler months.

While many older children and adults experience mild cold-like symptoms, young infants can become more unwell, particularly in their first months of life.

Understanding why babies are vulnerable helps families prepare for the winter virus season ahead.

Over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing more information about how families can protect their newborns from RSV.

🍼 RSV protection for babies is now available in Victoria

The 2026 Victorian infant RSV immunisation program will begin in mid-March, helping protect newborns and young infants during the upcoming winter virus season.

RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is one of the leading causes of hospitalisation in infants under 12 months, particularly during the colder months.

This program offers long-acting RSV protection for eligible babies, including:

• Newborns whose mothers did not receive the maternal RSV vaccine at least two weeks before birth

• Infants with additional risk factors for severe RSV disease

At FITS Clinic, eligible families can register now to access RSV protection through our clinic at the Mother and Baby Centre.
