I am excited to share my first blog as an Organisational Psychologist (and as a former soccer club president).
Weaving in a little psychology, a little history and a lot of personal experience, I reflect on how I think kids' sport has changed in Australia over the past 30-40 years and how it occupies absurd amounts of attention at times; but also how it presents our society with some much-needed opportunities. I discuss:
1. Social connection (for adults)
2. Community mindedness
3. A source of local pride
4. Engaging volunteers (using self-determination theory)
5. Parent/child bonding
