In 2017, 20 year old Caitlin Mullon was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, and later POTS, after a serious one and a half year decline in her health. While all her friends were out traveling and living their lives, Caitlin found herself bedridden and in a wheelchair, dependent on her family and friends for daily care. With little to no help from conventional doctors, her family turned to natural remedies to try and get her well. At times she made a little improvement, other times she worsened. After being bedridden for two years, a naturopath was finally able to get her out of bed, and on his treatments, she steadily began to improve. By August 2022, she was traveling again and climbing mountains. :D
She still battles chronic illness, but at a milder level. She understands the daily struggle of life with chronic illness, and the stigma and misunderstanding of CFS/ME. She also understands mental illness, having received several mental health diagnoses and been hospitalized for it twice. She also understands autism, having grown up with a sibling who has it and she seeks to understand it the best she can.
She became a disability support worker because she desires to use her experience with disability and illness to help and support others, as she has been helped and supported herself. She knows she wouldn't be where she is today without the help and support of her family, friends, and medical team. Her heart is to give struggling people hope, and to support them to thrive even with disability or illness.
"With several friends recently diagnosed with CFS/ME, I can't sit back and watch people suffer and not do something about it. I have to do something. And support work is the way to do that for me." - Caitlin
Caitlin has worked in support work for a provider in the past, with clients who have autism, mental illness, and physical disability.
She is happy to work with all kinds of disability and illness, but has a particular heart for people with CFS/ME and autism.
If you would like Caitlin to work with you or your family member, please pm her. She is not ready to receive clients yet, but is happy to add you to a waiting list. :)
