👵 A Little Table Making a Big Impact at Kew Gardens 👶
This week, a small gesture made a big difference. We set up a highchair, a toddler-sized table and chairs, and some colourful kids’ activities in the Kew Gardens café — and just like that, the space came alive with laughter, crayons, and connection.
What started as a simple setup has become a heart-warming hub where grandparents can enjoy precious moments with their grandchildren, and families feel more at home during their visits. Children stay happily engaged while residents light up with joy, and the feedback from families has been overwhelmingly positive.
But beyond the smiles and giggles, there’s something deeper happening here.
When children and older adults connect, something beautiful unfolds. For residents in aged care, especially those who may be feeling isolated or experiencing cognitive decline, these intergenerational moments can spark joy, stimulate memory, and bring renewed purpose. For children, time spent with older adults nurtures empathy, patience, and a sense of belonging across generations.
These simple, shared experiences — a colouring-in session, a shared laugh, a tiny hand in an older one — builds wellbeing and remind us all of the power of human connection at every stage of life.
