Micronutrient déficiences - when we treat one we can trigger an imbalance in others
I wrote an article recently which is in the process of being published but here’s an IG version summary - this is a little explainer of the impacts of zinc, iron and copper.
My article is talking about the impacts from a cardiac perspective, but this is relevant for everyone.
Iron deficiency is one of the most recognised and common deficiencies globally. But treating iron deficiency can impact copper balance and zinc.
Copper is also important for heart function - copper deficiency has been associated with every cardiac risk factor over the years. It’s far less recognised because we don’t have an efficient test for it - but doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
Zinc deficiency is also a problem for the heart and whole body actually!! It is required for over 300 enzymes and metabolic processes.
When we treat one area, we need to be mindful of the potential imbalance it sets up in other areas.
Food is perfectly balanced and always the best place to start for nutrition.
What have you found? Have you been treated for one thing (like iron) and still found the same issues returning?
