Masseters treatment for bruxism and jaw clenching.

Botulinum Toxin has a reputation as a wrinkle targeting injection, although it has many other applications. In this case, we will discuss masseter treatment.

What is a masseter? The masseter muscle is situated deep on either side of the lower face below the cheeks. This muscle assists with mastication (chewing) and clenching the jaw.

Botulinum toxin is injected into the masseter to alleviate bruxism (teeth grinding) and jaw clenching. Masseter botulinum toxin can also help reduce the size of the muscle, resulting in a slimmer lower face.

Because of the size and strength of this muscle, a larger quantity of botulinum toxin is required compared to that of, say, frontalis (forehead muscle). This treatment can last anywhere between 4-6 months.

~ Facial Anatomy ~

With new regulations in place about what phrases I am now to use, some might think I am talking a whole new language, so here we go. Welcome to injectables language 101. Over the next few weeks, I will go into detail about the muscles of the face, their names, and how they can be treated.

I'm going to keep you educated and informed as best I can so you can understand and talk injectables with me.

Your face and neck contain about 68 muscles that control your facial expressions and movement. Here are the most common muscles treated with antiwrinkle in the face and neck and will now refer to them as the correct terminology.

Feel free to ask as many questions as you like.

~ UPDATE - PLEASE READ ~

You might start to notice some changes on the grid moving forward with marketing and advertising cosmetic injecatbles.

As of the 1st July 2023, there are new strict guidelines we will be adhering to at Softley Aesthetics, which include not glamorizing treatments, downplay complexity, and imply unrealistic or exaggerated results.

It may appear very clinical in terminology and appearance, and I will do my best to educate you along the way. We will be using appropriate terminology when referring to certain muscles and areas being treated. For example, in lieu of 'crows feet', we will be indicating the muscle 'orbicularis occuli'

There had also been a lot of speculation around requiring a GP referral prior to treatment. This is only required for cosmetic surgery - not injectables. So feel free to continue to book as usual.

There are some further changes that will occur in your consultation prior to treatment. Financial consent will now be obtained along with a body dysmorphia questionnaire, which we will run through together at your next consultation.

Lastly, no quotes will be given over any social media platform, so please feel free to book a complimentary consultation.
