While EMDR is a well-established and evidence-based treatment for trauma, it is not appropriate for every individual or clinical context at every point in time.

Because EMDR involves activating emotionally charged material, careful clinical judgment is required to ensure the process is safe, contained, and therapeutically beneficial.

EMDR is a structured, evidence-based therapeutic approach that uses bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements, tapping, or tones) to assist the brain in reprocessing traumatic or distressing memories.

Developed by Dr Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s, EMDR is now internationally recognised for its effectiveness in treating both acute and longstanding trauma.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, which often relies on detailed narrative processing, EMDR facilitates change through a targeted memory-processing protocol that activates the brain’s natural adaptive pathways.

While clients are asked to recall aspects of the distressing experience, the emphasis is on what emerges during reprocessing — including shifts in body sensations, beliefs, and emotional responses — rather than prolonged verbal recounting.

A late diagnosis of autism in adults can create a range of new feelings as you process what this means for you. We have found that, initially, for many individuals, a neuroaffirming assessment can be a relief, finally explaining challenges faced.

A formal diagnosis can provide an explanation for years of feeling 'different,' 'out of place', or like you don't fit in. For some, they report that the diagnosis gave them a sense of belonging.

Such validation can be empowering, providing a new framework for understanding yourself and your experiences. It can also offer a sense of newfound hope and identity.

As well as the positives of having an official diagnosis, over time, some more distressing emotions can emerge as you process your diagnosis and re-examine your life and childhood through this new lens.

We are coming to Mildura this July.

We know how hard it can be to access high-quality assessments in regional areas. Long waitlists often mean missed opportunities for support, which is why our team is travelling to Mildura to offer comprehensive, evidence-based assessments for children, adolescents and adults.

Assessments can be used for:

NDIS access or reassessment
DSP or Carer Payment applications
School-based supports or learning adjustments

We assess for a range of neurodevelopmental and mental health conditions, including autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, anxiety, and depression. Reports are professional, neuroaffirming, and aligned with NDIS and government requirements.

Our standard process includes three appointments:

An initial Zoom interview to gather background information
An in-person assessment session in Mildura
A Zoom feedback session to go through results and next steps
This structure may vary slightly depending on your individual needs.

Spots are limited, so get in touch early.

To book or ask a question, contact Megan (Mildura Enquiries)
Phone: 0399389800

Or complete our enquiry form and we’ll get back to you: https://www.boutiquepsychology.au/regional-assessments/mildura-assessments

At Boutique Psychology, while we don’t provide Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans directly, our psychologists work collaboratively with PBS practitioners to support clients in achieving their goals.

Through therapeutic support, mental health assessments, and tailored interventions, we help build the emotional and psychological foundations that can make PBS plans more effective.

🧠 How we can help:
✔ Provide psychological assessments to better understand a person’s needs
✔ Deliver therapeutic support to build emotional regulation and coping skills
✔ Support families and support workers through education and consultation
✔ Collaborate with PBS practitioners as part of a multidisciplinary team

We value holistic, person-centred care — and we're proud to be part of a broader team supporting clients through the NDIS.

Let’s talk about it, because men’s mental health matters just as much as anyone else’s.

So many men grow up believing they need to stay strong, stay silent, and “tough it out.” But asking for help takes real strength.

Whether it’s stress, anxiety, burnout, or something you can’t quite put into words, your feelings are valid, and you deserve support.

At Boutique Psychology, we provide a calm, respectful space where men can talk openly and feel heard, no judgment, just support.

💙 Reach out. For yourself, or someone you care about.
