☎️ Will I be able to contact my care manager directly? Breakdowns in communication are one of the most common reasons people switch providers. Some providers don’t give clients direct phone access to their care manager, which can leave you feeling unheard or stuck waiting for a call back. Make sure you’ll have a clear, direct line of communication.

🌏 Where are you located? Providers without a strong local presence often send workers from outside your area, which can result in travel delays or cancelled shifts. Ask them if they have staff in your suburb, and how they manage travel times.

💵 Will someone explain how budgets and billing works? Home care is pretty confusing at the best of times. Getting surprised by unexpected fees or trying to read a statement can make it even worse. Make sure your potential provider is upfront about their fees and package management.

If you're looking for a local home care provider that can help you get the support you need, get in touch with us below.

Meet Gloria – living proof that the right support can open up a whole new world.

After moving to Melbourne to live with her daughter, Gloria needed help getting around the city.

Now, with Care Companions visiting twice a week through her Home Care Package, she’s back out in the community—going for walks, enjoying cups of tea, and taking day trips to places like the Melbourne Zoo.

She’s also received a new wheelchair through her HCP. This has helped immensely with travelling in and out of the city and makes day trips more comfortable and enjoyable.

How has your HCP helped you or someone you love? We’d love to hear your story.

While many providers have welcomed the delayed launch of Support at Home, we were already prepared.

It’s meant certainty to clients about what Care Plans and budgets will look like under the new scheme, and clarity on a smooth transition come the November 1 launch of Support at Home.

Backed by Kinyara Health, here’s four things we’ve done to help our clients be ready for reform:

✅ Create opportunity in change – Instead of waiting to see what would happen, we embraced the reforms early. We focused on how Support at Home could lead to better care, more choice, and stronger outcomes for the people we support.

✅ Good care is good business – We’re a local home care team, backed by a centralised back office Kinyara Health. While they look after the business of care, we’re able to focus on what matters most to the people we serve.

✅ In-depth training – We invested in industry-leading, month-long training programs to support our team and give our clients the answers they need. We blended theory and practical training — and now we’re more confident than ever.

✅ Lead and innovate early – We adopted a stable, reform-ready client servicing platform early — giving our team the tools they needed to adapt confidently.

If you’re looking for a provider who’s ready for Support at Home — and ready to help you through it — we’re here for you.

Choosing a home care provider? Don’t learn the hard way.

We hear from people every day who feel let down - promised great care, but left without the support or clarity they expected.

The good news is that switching home care providers is easier than you might realise.

We’ve helped lots of older Australians make the move. Here are 3 things they wish they’d known earlier.

🧑‍⚕️ You can keep using your own health providers

Switching doesn’t mean starting over. You can keep seeing your physio, podiatrist or any trusted allied health professionals. A good provider will work with them, not replace them.

🎁 Don’t get caught out by short-term deals

Low upfront fees and flashy offers can be tempting, but they often come at the cost of long-term service quality. Ask deeper questions to make sure the care holds up over time.

🚪 Ask if your provider uses contractor workers

Some providers rely on agency staff, which can mean cancelled visits, inconsistent care, and unfamiliar faces. You deserve a reliable team you know and trust.

All of our care workers are part of our in-house team, so you can expect familiar faces and reliable support.

Support at Home may have been delayed – but changes are still coming on 1 July.

On the back of Australian Government's recent announcement to delay the launch of Support at Home until November 2025, a number important changes will be implemented instead.

These include price increases due to indexed wage rises for support workers, and updated service agreements for all new and existing clients.

With the new Support at Home aged care program set to roll out on 1 July, many older Australians are keen to understand how the fees will work. With participants now expected to contribute to the cost of care, the financial details are understandably top of mind. There is good news, however, with the pricing model expected to deliver more direct hours of service.

👉Read more about how it works here:

Share this updated with anyone currently navigating the home care system.

With the government still releasing details of what's to come, getting answers has been a challenge, but one thing is now clear: participants will receive more service hours for the same funding.
