Death and life are not opposing forces, they are one and the same process. They entail and constitute each other, there is no life without death and no death without life.

It's so infuriating when pop culture represents them as opposites or enemies, it truly makes no sense, it's a fantasy to think you can have life without death. Says a lot about where modern culture is at

After 18 months of training, exploration and apprenticeship, I am now a funeral celebrant!

Over the last couple of months I have been sidling up to Picaluna and with their support I am now able to offer care to my community throughout the end of life.

I offer spiritual care as people are dying, after death care for their body at home or a mortuary, and support to create beautiful, healing, community funerals.

Yes! All the new rituals! Let's make the paths we need to travel with our grief. So awesome to see two people I deeply respect and admire collaborating together.

Beauty and wisdom and deep philosophy in this one. I find so much solace in listening to people who have let themselves be broken by their grief and still found things to live for

I just watched Marvelous and the Black Hole, on SBS on demand at the moment. I found it very beautiful about grief and life and growing up and a little bit of magic

A rebellious 13-year-old who is dealing with the loss of her mother embarks on an adventure with a children's party magician.

Here come The Bengsons to crack me open once again.

Please let's talk about dying. Let's talk about it now, before we get sick, before it's obvious. While there's time to make the most of our precious life and say what hasn't been said.

Enjoying a long goodbye.

This morning I hung out with my friend Ingrid Schmithüsen in Canada. She has ALS so she is watching her body deteriorate and gradually loosing capacity. She is also the most alive and joyful person I've ever met.

I asked her about grief, about the pain of loss. Every day she takes 15 minutes to plunge into sadness, if it feels distant she looks for it in her body and invites it forth. And from moment to moment if sadness surfaces she allows it to be there.

She said every day compared to the one before, some possibilities have gone. It strikes me that this is true of all of us.

Having my living wake was really a practical way of being like, “Hey, we can do this differently. Let’s see what we can do with this thing that we all have to go through – that’s not like this terrible, scary, hidden kind of thing. Let’s make it something else.” - Annie Werner

Wow! What a hero!!!

Facing terminal cancer, Annie Werner realised she didn’t want people saying ‘super nice’ things about her after she had died. She wanted to be there – so she held a living wake
