Yesterday we hosted Gender Equity Victoria (GEN VIC) and Safe and Equal for their End of Year Celebration — and to say farewell and honour the incredible legacy of the Hon. Natalie Hutchins MP as Minister for Women.

There is no question that the Minister has been a special friend of the QVWC. During her time as Minister she has:

✨ Appointed 10 Trust members to the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre Trust ensuring we have the right skills and diversity to meet our obligations under the Act and keep the Centre relevant and strong for future generations.

✨ Secured $300K in funding for critical capital works to maintain our beautiful heritage building so that we can continue to house women and gender diverse organisations and provide a home to advance gender equity.

✨ Installed seven free pads and tampons machines in our bathrooms.

✨ And finally, lent her strong support for the Creative Resilience sculpture, that stands so proudly at the front of the building on Lonsdale Street, celebrating the important role of First Nations women in caring and nurturing culture and community as a part of the Women’s Art Project – a project seeking to address the lack of recognition of women’s contribution to public life.

Thank you, Natalie, for your leadership, your advocacy and your unwavering support of the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre. Our doors — and our feminist shop — are always open to you.

Today marks the beginning of the United Nations’ international campaign Against Gender-Based Violence, held each year from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day).

Launched in 1991, the campaign was created to unite and amplify global calls for an end to violence against women and girls. Each year, 16 Days of Activism mobilises movements and organisations worldwide, drawing the attention of governments and communities to the urgent need to eliminate gender-based violence.

To coincide with this year’s campaign, QVWC presents , on display until 12 December.

Rest In Power is an exhibition honouring the 2024 RMIT student protests and women lost to gendered violence since.

Visitors are invited to experience the exhibition alongside a series of accompanying events.

Across QVWC’s ground floor and the Birnbeal Gallery, audiences will encounter spaces designed equally for action and reflection—including a writing wall, dedicated areas for contemplation, and a placard-making station for those taking part in the 2025 Walk Against Family Violence on 28 November.

Thursday Girls Group - our newest QVWC Resident Organisation!

We’re delighted to welcome Thursday Girls Group to the QVWC Community.

"Thursday Girls Group has been providing free services to women with Metastatic Breast Cancer since a global research study in 1997. Since then, we have moved from a purely volunteer-run organisation to an NFP one with some part-time staff, paid facilitators and a lot of discretionary volunteer effort. Securing our place in the QVWC gives us a home for our team, our members and our volunteers!" - Jodi Webb, Vice President Thursday Girls Group Board
