Posted • I feel very privileged to have an opinion article in The Age today. New parents are entitled to feed their babies as they choose, however they should have access to independent and scientific information to support their decisions, and this is being undermined. Link to article in bio.

Let's step up to support breastfeeding women and their families for World Breastfeeding Week, 2022. As a community we can support mothers with a warm chain (where support progresses from one level to another).

A common question, how long should a breastfeed take?

29/03/2022

If every Australian ate just one extra serve of vegetables a day, this would deliver more than $1 billion reduction in health expenditure over five years.

The Fruit & Vegetable Consortium are asking government for funding to deliver a long-term national behaviour change program to lift vegetable consumption for Australians. This is a multi-billion-dollar opportunity.

Posted • There have been multiple studies that have investigated the impact of bariatric surgery on breastfeeding. People who have had bariatric surgery may be at greater risk of nutrient deficiencies, as the surgery can change how nutrients are absorbed, so it is important to check levels of vitamins and minerals before, or at the start of pregnancy, to see if supplementation is needed. Please see my latest blog post for the nutrients of concern and how to include these in your diet. https://www.nicolebando.com/blog/weight-loss-after-baby-and-special-dietssituations

This is long, but worth a read if you are worried about your baby’s sleep. Key points:
- There is a wide range in ‘normal’ infant sleep
- It is normal for babies to night wake throughout their first year
- Responsive parenting - responding to feed and sleep cues will help your baby take the sleep they need.

Sleep regressions aren't real. Night wakes are normal, and protect against SIDS. And 12 hours of sleep isn't a gold standard. Here's what scientists want us to know about baby sleep.
