Loved filling in on a really thought- provoking segment last night called “The shrink & the philosopher”- although I am neither! We discussed Attention- what is it? What has happened to our ability to pay attention? How can we build back the skill of focusing? Lovely to chat with philosopher Patrick Stokes and beautifully facilitated by David Astle. If interested, you can listen back to the conversation here (from 51 min mark) https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/melbourne-evenings/evenings/106656020?utm_content=whatsapp&utm_medium=content_shared

Get • The fab five food groups are here to help makeover your family’s eating habits and ensure they’re getting enough 🥦 vegetables, 🍓fruit, 🍞 cereals and wholegrains, 🍗 meat, fish, poultry or alternatives and 🧀 dairy or alternatives each day, with teens needing the amount of serves shown above.

Our latest National Child Health Poll released today found that over 90% of Aussie parents and teens don’t know the recommended serves of vegetables, proteins, wholegrains or dairy outlined in the Australian dietary guidelines.

A balanced diet across these five food groups helps with healthy growth and development as well as sets kids up for positive eating habits later in life, which can decrease the risk of chronic health issues such as diabetes, heart disease and obesity.

If your child has been diagnosed with allergies or medical conditions that impact what they can eat, discuss any concerns with your doctor

Last night, Flying Fox HQ was buzzing as we hosted our first medical event exploring medical ethics.

We had the privilege of hearing from Dr Lexi Frydenberg and Sharon Feldman, who guided us through the real, complex decisions that arise when medicine, care, and ethics intersect.

What stood out most wasn’t just the expertise in the room, but the openness to challenge perspectives and engage in thoughtful, sometimes uncomfortable conversations.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the night. It was a powerful reminder of how valuable it is to bring people together across disciplines to learn from one another.

We can’t wait to host more conversations like this!

Couldn’t be more proud of my incredible mother and her brilliant new book - her story ( and many others) is an example of the gratitude and richness that many immigrants have brought to Australia • .australian Erica Frydenberg is a distinguished Australian psychologist whose 25th book is about to be published. Just recently, she decided to dedicate it to victims of the Bondi massacre – and to those who tried to save them.⁣

Their actions – sprinting barefoot towards gunfire to help people they didn’t know – represents for Dr Frydenberg the very best of humankind. This, she says, is the essence of life, the very marrow in our bones. We can resist evil. The heroes of Bondi light the way.⁣

The dedication in Dr Frydenberg’s book is important for another reason: Bondi is a place she knows well.⁣

It was the first place that she felt safe.⁣ Her book is available to purchase here https://ginninderrapress.com.au/authors/erica-frydenberg/

Get • When someone you love is in hospital, it can be hard to know how to help.

For the family on the inside, life often feels like it has been turned upside down. They are trying to understand medical language, adjust to changed routines, manage fear and exhaustion, and somehow keep the outside world moving too.

Work. Finances. Other children. Washing. Meals. The house. The messages. The mental load is huge.

If you want to support a family in hospital, practical help can mean everything. Flowers are beautiful, but so is taking the bins out, doing a school pickup, dropping off a meal, cleaning the house, or sending a coffee voucher with no expectation to reply.

Often, the most meaningful support is not the grand gesture. It is the quiet, practical kindness that helps life keep going when everything feels hard.

And one little tip about flowers, always check first. In many children’s critical care areas, flowers are not allowed in rooms, so your thoughtful gift might be better spent on something more useful like coffee, food, parking, or a small treat.

Medical parents, what helped you most during a hospital stay?

So proud of my mum and her incredible new book - Do Not Forget Me Street- she not only writes about her difficult beginnings, growing up in Budapest during the Holocaust, but has researched and endeavoured to shine a light on “good people in bad times” - messages that are more important now than ever before
