Today marks the start of International Compost Awareness Week. This yearโ€™s message is simple: Feed the soil that feeds us.

When food scraps are thrown into landfill, they break down and release methane, a strong greenhouse gas. But when those same scraps are composted, they turn into healthy food for the soil instead.

โœ… Composting can cut household waste by up to 30%
โœ… Compost makes soil healthier and helps it hold more water
โœ… Compost helps plants grow stronger and healthier
โœ… Compost keeps food waste out of landfill

No backyard? No compost bin? No problem.

If you donโ€™t have space to compost at home, you can use your Food and Garden Organics (greenโ€‘lid) bin. Your food and garden scraps are collected and turned into compost for farms, parks and gardens.

Learn more about International Compost Awareness Week here, https://compostfoundation.org/icaw-home/

Itโ€™s official! Oasis Aquatics and Wellbeing is the official name of the new leisure centre currently under construction at Mills Reserve.

The name follows extensive community engagement, with strong support for keeping the much loved Oasis name โ€” a reflection of the deep connection our community has with the existing Dandenong Oasis.

Currently under construction, Oasis Aquatics and Wellbeing will be a hub for health, fitness, connection and wellbeing and is on track to open in 2027.

Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback and helped shape this important community destination.
