๐ŸŒ World Sickle Cell Day | June 19 ๐Ÿ”ด
๐Ÿ’ก on Sickle Cell Disease

Today, on World Sickle Cell Day, we stand in solidarity with millions of individuals and families affected by Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), a genetic blood disorder that still lacks widespread awareness and equitable access to care.

As part of the global movement, landmarks and buildings around the world will glow red to on SCD.

In Australia, the buildings below will in tonight.

This powerful symbol serves as a reminder that awareness can drive action and action can change lives.

๐Ÿ”ด SCD affects over 20 million people globally
๐Ÿ”ด Many face chronic pain, organ damage, and limited treatment options
๐Ÿ”ด Early diagnosis and access to comprehensive care are critical

๐Ÿ’ฌ Letโ€™s keep the conversation going. Share, post, and educate. Advocacy begins with awareness.

To everyone living with SCD โ€” your strength inspires us.
To healthcare providers, caregivers, researchers, and advocates, thank you for your tireless work.

Together, we can push for better treatment, equitable care, and a brighter future.

If you are near any of these buildings, please take a photo and post on social media tagging Australian Sickle Cell Advocacy Inc. Together, we will break the stigma attached to discussing Sickle Cell Disease.

๐Ÿ“ป New Community Radio Program Launches to Promote Sickle Cell Awareness and Mental Health โ€“ A First for South Australia

We are proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking community radio program led by the Australian Sickle Cell Advocacy Inc (ASCA) โ€“ South Australia Chapter, dedicated to raising awareness about sickle cell disease and promoting mental health well-being across multicultural communities.

The initiative is hosted by passionate advocates Mwewa Chisenga MBA CA and Musonda Chisenga, both of whom bring lived experience, community insight, and a powerful vision for change.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Why This Program Matters

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder that disproportionately affects people from African, Middle Eastern, Indian, and Mediterranean backgrounds. Despite this, awareness of the condition remains low in Australia, particularly in culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Many individuals and families affected by SCD face not only medical challenges but also emotional, social, and mental health hurdles โ€“ often in silence. This new radio platform aims to change that.

๐ŸŒ What Listeners Can Expect

The radio show is more than just a source of information โ€“ it's a safe space. Each episode will explore:

* Real-life experiences of people living with sickle cell disease
* Conversations around mental health stigma
* Culturally tailored health education
* Expert interviews with clinicians, advocates, and counsellors

๐Ÿค Community-Led & Focused

This initiative exemplifies the power of community-led advocacy. Mwewa and Musonda Chisenga have long been voices for equitable healthcare access and mental health support. Their commitment ensures the program remains inclusive, educational, and inspiring.
