Registration for the Emergency Medicine Symposium closes today.

If you’ve been meaning to join us — or bring one more friend — this is your final moment before we lock it in.

Final Week. Nearly Full. Deeply Grateful.

As we share this glimpse of our faculty, we’re mindful that this week marks the final stretch.

Registrations close 15 February, and there are fewer than five places remaining.

This year, almost 100 emergency clinicians are joining us — from every state of Australia and New Zealand. We’re honestly grateful for that trust.

We’ve chosen to keep this Symposium intentionally small.
Not for exclusivity — but for conversation, connection, and the kind of learning that only happens when the room feels human.

Three days.
Hands-on workshops.
Challenging clinical conversations.
Cultural safety. Paediatrics. Trauma. Leadership. AI.
And space to think, question, and grow — together.

If you’ve been sitting with the idea, this is the moment.
Not because seats are closing —
but because this programme, and this group, feels truly special.

Thank you for being part of the journey.
We can’t wait to share April with you.

Cocktail party

The part of Day 1 that’s almost too easy to stay at a little longer…

That’s how Day 1 of the Emergency Medicine Symposium winds down.

And the best bit? You’ve earned it.

Because the morning is busy, hands-on, and properly academic workshops built for real clinicians:

🤖 Hands-On AI for the Time-Poor Clinician

(Workshop | Emergency Medicine Symposium, Da Nang)

This is one of five hands-on workshops at the Emergency Medicine Symposium—but it’s unlike anything usually offered in clinical education.

This AI workshop is designed to make clinicians ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀᴏᴜꜱʟʏ ᴄᴀᴘᴀʙʟᴇ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴍᴏᴅᴇʀɴ ᴀɪ ᴛᴏᴏʟꜱ 😏 —dangerous to inefficiency, not to patients—bringing a style of hands-on building usually seen in developer spaces into emergency medicine.

Led by Dr Richard Haydon and Dr Rajan Kailainathan, participants will:

Learn Vibe coding and practical automation

Work hands-on with tools like GPT, Gemini, and Cursor

Understand concepts like APIs and MCP just enough to make them useful

Build and deploy clinically relevant tools that fit real ED workflows

This is not about turning clinicians into developers.
It’s about helping clinicians move from AI curiosity to real capability.

Bring a laptop. Bring the LLM and tools, complete the pre-work.
Spend 2.5 immersive hours building something you can actually use.

Gala Dinner | Emergency Medicine Symposium 2026

✨ 𝙀𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙒𝙚𝙨𝙩: 𝘼 𝘿𝙖 𝙉𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙤𝙞𝙧é𝙚 ✨

An ultra-elegant gala dinner, created as the social heart of the Emergency Medicine Symposium.

📍 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘉𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘮, 𝘚𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘯 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘋𝘢 𝘕𝘢𝘯𝘨
🗓 14 𝘈𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘭 2026 (𝘋𝘢𝘺 2 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦)
🕖 7:00 𝘱𝘮

The evening unfolds with a traditional Vietnamese lion dance, setting the tone for a night where culture, connection, and celebration meet — before easing into an elegant dinner and a DJ-led dance floor.

𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐝𝐞: 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫, 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬.

For those who’ve joined us before, you’ll recognise this moment.
While the conference challenges our thinking, the gala is where we arrive with the people who carry the journey with us — partners, friends, and loved ones who share the long hours and quiet sacrifices behind our work.

It’s no surprise that demand for the gala often rivals the conference itself.

We now have fewer than 10 registrations remaining, and all registrations (including gala and guest tickets) will close on 15 February 2025 (unless sold out prior)

🎟️ Guest tickets are available — and for those already registered, guest tickets can be added directly to your existing registration.

With the generous support of Emergency Medicine Symposium – Australia, Vanni Hope has supported inland fishing families in Paddalipuram, Trincomalee, by providing 40 fishing nets and 5 canoes. This essential equipment is helping families safely access inland tanks, improve their catch, and restore livelihoods following recent disruptions.

𝗗𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗮 𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵𝘀: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗬𝗼𝘂
𝗗𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗷 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻

Many of you will remember Dr Raj from his previous session:
Mastering Haemodynamic Assessment in Critically Ill Patients — a talk that pushed us beyond numbers and back into first-principles physiology.

This is the next chapter.

Once again, Raj is challenging how we think — not by adding more data, but by questioning what we do with it.

We’ve all seen that patient.
In Resus… or a regular cubicle.
Slightly puffed, sitting up, eating a sandwich.

Then the monitor says SpO₂ 82%.

The room tenses. Everyone looks to the numbers.
The patient looks at us — wondering why we are suddenly worried.

And quietly, inside our own head:
Why doesn’t this feel like hypoxia?

🧠𝗗𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗮 𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵𝘀: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗬𝗼𝘂

When physiology disagrees with the monitor

When oxygen delivery matters more than oxygen numbers

When haemoglobin behaves unpredictably

When lung physiology works against your interventions

This talk builds on Raj’s trademark strength — deep physiological reasoning made practical for the ED.

Because oxygen saturation is a number.
Oxygen delivery is physiology.

Sometimes the most dangerous mistake isn’t missing hypoxia —
it’s treating a number without understanding the patient.

This session will challenge reflexes, unsettle comfortable habits,
and sharpen decision-making where it matters most.

Together, Vanni Hope and the Emergency Medicine Symposium started 2026 with a simple but meaningful act — turning intent into real, on-the-ground impact.

Through thoughtful ex*****on and shared purpose, fishing families in Elakantha Village are now back on the water, rebuilding livelihoods with dignity and hope.

In early January 2026, five fibre canoes were distributed to the Fishermen’s Society of Elakantha Village, Muttur (Trincomalee District). More than equipment, these boats represent safety, stability, and renewed opportunity for families whose livelihoods were disrupted by disaster.

This initiative was made possible through the collective generosity of the Symposium’s faculty and delegates, and delivered with care by Vanni Hope Sri Lanka. It reflects a shared belief that the reach of emergency medicine extends beyond hospitals and conferences — into communities, livelihoods, and long-term resilience.

Each canoe helps:
Restore access to safe and reliable fishing

Strengthen household income for beneficiary families

Support livelihood recovery following disaster

Build capacity within the local Fishermen’s Society

To our faculty and delegates — thank you. Your support continues to translate into meaningful action on the ground. This is just one glimpse of the work being enabled, with more to be shared in the months ahead.

𝐖𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 — 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬.

Two arms.
Liberal fluids versus restrictive fluids.
Pressors early versus pressors late.

What often gets lost is the message this sends to practice: that fluids and vasopressors are opposing choices, rather than complementary tools applied to different physiological problems.

So when hypotension appears, our reflex is familiar — give fluid. Not because it’s always right, but because that’s how the question has been framed for years.

This conversation at the Emergency Medicine Symposium in Vietnam is about stepping back from that “this or that” thinking. About recognising haemodynamic and echo phenotypes, and about using evidence as a guide — not a shortcut.

I’m looking forward to a discussion that challenges assumptions, respects complexity, and sharpens clinical reasoning.
