What a fantastic turnout of Baptcare staff at the Walk Against Family Violence 2025 in Melbourne last Friday.

For our foster care teams, this cause is deeply personal.

Every day, we work alongside carers who provide safe, stable and nurturing homes for children who cannot live with their families due to violence, neglect or other risks.

Standing together reminds us of why this work matters.

Every child deserves to feel safe. Every family deserves support. And every community has a role to play in preventing violence before it occurs.

At Baptcare, we stand firmly against domestic and family violence in all its forms.
Together, we can shift attitudes.
Together, we can challenge norms.
Together, we can help children feel safe, seen and supported.

Families come in all shapes, sizes and stories and every one of them has room for love.

Foster carers, kinship carers, grandparents, parents, neighbours and friends, together help children feel safe and supported.

Because when it comes to caring, there’s no single “right” kind of family. Just people who show up with open hearts. 💚

While most of us are winding down, many children in our community are facing uncertainty.

Some are entering care for the first time, needing a safe and stable place to land.

As we head toward Christmas and the New Year, we’re calling on people across Victoria and Tasmania to consider becoming foster carers.

You don’t need to have parenting experience, just patience, compassion and a spare room.

Our team will guide you every step of the way with training, support and understanding.

Because every child deserves a safe place to call home, not just at Christmas, but all year round.

Foster care doesn’t just change the lives of the children in care, it touches the whole family.

When carers open their homes, their parents often open their hearts too.

We see grandparents stepping in with gentle advice, weekend visits, shared meals and steady encouragement, becoming another safe and loving constant for the children in care.

For many kids, it’s the first time they’ve had that kind of grandparent relationship. Someone who remembers their favourite meal. Who claps the loudest at school assemblies. Who tells them they’re proud, just because.

At Baptcare, we know fostering truly takes a village. And when that village includes grandparents, the love only grows.

Meet Jacinta Chapman, Family Services Practitioner at our Moonah Hub. 💚

Jacinta began working in the foster care space about a year and a half ago, supporting carers who open their homes and hearts to children in need.

“What first drew me to this role, and what continues to inspire me, is witnessing the incredible dedication of our carers and seeing the positive, lasting impact they have on the children in their care,” she says.

For Jacinta, the best part of her job is the people she works with every day.

“Without a doubt, the best part of my job is working alongside our amazing carers, who pour so much love and effort into supporting kids. Seeing them feel appreciated, supported, and valued is the most rewarding part of what I do.” 🌟

Many carers tell us they started with a simple thought: “I wonder if I could do that.”

They soon discovered that fostering wasn’t about being perfect — it was about being present.

If you’ve been thinking about it, reach out for a chat.

We’ll talk through what’s involved, answer your questions honestly, and help you explore what kind of care might suit you best.

Sometimes the most meaningful journeys start with curiosity.

Fostering isn’t something anyone does alone.

Behind every carer is a team cheering them on, caseworkers, coordinators, extended family, community partners and other carers who truly understand.

Together we create the kind of village every child deserves: one that’s safe, stable and filled with care.

Whether you’re a seasoned carer or just beginning to explore what’s involved, you’re never without support.

At Baptcare, we partner with you every step of the way to make sure both you and your foster child can thrive.

A little spooky spirit and a lot of smiles! 🎃

This week the Tassie team enjoyed an afternoon of Halloween treats, games and plenty of laughs – with a scarily accurate Mr Bean making a special appearance!

To our wonderful foster and kinship carers and the children in your care – we hope you have a fun, safe and treat-filled! Halloween if you’re celebrating tonight. 💚

A big thank you to our friends at !

Tassie Mums is a not-for-profit group passionate about providing essential items to babies and children in need. They collect donations of new and preloved clothing and small items, which are sorted, bundled, and rehomed by an incredible team of volunteers. 🌼

Through their generosity, Tassie Mums assist Baptcare by providing care bundles for children entering foster or kinship placements — from newborns through to 14-year-olds.

Recentlt, Bernie Bear visited Tassie Mums to collect bundles for two children, aged four and twelve, entering a kinship placement. Each pack offers not just comfort, but a warm welcome as they settle into a new home. 💚

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is a time to celebrate love, light and togetherness. ✨

A member of our Foster Care team in Tasmania has shared some beautiful ways families can celebrate Diwali with children. From cleaning and decorating the home to sharing sweets and learning about the story behind this special day.

Whether you’re lighting candles, watching fireworks, or attending a community event, Diwali is a wonderful opportunity to connect, learn and celebrate the diversity that makes our communities shine.

Happy Diwali from all of us at Baptcare. 💛

Meet Porsha Archer, one of our dedicated Family Services Practitioners at our Moonah Hub in Tasmania. 💚

Since joining the program just over a year ago, Porsha has found the journey both challenging and deeply rewarding.

“I love helping advocate for those who may not have a voice,” Porsha says. “Children in out-of-home care have been through so much, and I want to help create a safe and positive environment for them to thrive in.” ✨

“The best part of this job is the relationships I get to form with carers and their children. I’m able to support carers as they navigate systems and find the best outcomes for the children in their care.”

"I also enjoy seeing the progress and milestones the children reach while in care and help celebrate these wins.”

💛 Thank you Porsha, for the meaningful difference you make every day!

Today is World Mental Health Day 💚

Mental health matters for all of us, every day.

For children and young people in foster and kinship care, wellbeing support can help them feel safe, valued and connected as they navigate big changes.

And for carers, mental health is just as vital. Foster and kinship caring can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be demanding. Looking after your own wellbeing means you can be there fully for the children in your care.

By breaking the stigma, talking openly and making kindness part of our daily routines, we can support both carers and children to thrive.

Let’s care. Let’s connect. Let’s make mental health a priority, together.
