A thunderstorm asthma warning has been issued for parts of Victoria today as wild weather approaches the state, as
Melbourne’s hay fever season runs from 1 October to 31 December each year. The combination of forecast high grass pollen levels and severe thunderstorms with strong winds. It’s a period dreaded by the 4.5 million Australians who suffer from the condition.
The best way to reduce the frequency of your hay fever is to identify what causes your allergic reaction and then try to avoid contact with it, or at least minimise contact.
As we can’t literally cure hay fever, but it can be managed as there’s a huge range of Over The Counter medications to help reduce hay fever symptoms. These include:
Steroid nasal sprays (e.g. Rhinocort Hayfever, Nasonex and Telnase)
Antihistamines (e.g. Zyrtec and Claratyne, Antihistamines are the safest choice if you have high blood pressure).
Eye drops (e.g. Visine-A and Naphcon-A)
Decongestants (e.g. Otrivin and Dimetapp)
Non medicated Saline nasal sprays (works by thinning and loosening thick mucus inside the nasal passages to help reduce congestion, e.g. Flo nozoil and Fess Salin Spray)
