Sulphite sensitivity can be challenging to manage, especially when sulphites (and other additives) don't always need to be listed on labels (depending on the amount present in the product). It's great to see that medicine labels are being improved to make it easier to see if problematic ingredients are present in the product (this also includes herbal supplements, vitamins and minerals). Medicine/vitamin labels will start looking different over the next few years as manufacturers implement the updated labelling requirements.

Symptoms of ADHD can be managed to varying levels of success by avoiding nasty food additives. Whether diagnosed or undiagnosed, ADHD can be successfully treated with dietary changes. Many families have seen improvements in ADHD symptoms by eliminating food additives and, in some cases, other problem food chemicals. It's always great to see this recognised in the media. As more people are aware of this, more families can be helped.

ADHD is the most common mental health condition in children but diagnosis and treatment with drugs remain controversial.

Do you need additive-free dairy-free yoghurt options? I love the Nudie Dairy Free Coconut yoghurts (Natural is my favourite). I also love to make my own yoghurt using the Green Living Australia Non-Dairy Yoghurt Culture. You can make use it with soy, coconut or almond milks. It contains no additives and you can add your own ingredients to vary the flavours - honey, fruit puree, maple syrup, pure vanilla essence etc. Yum!!!

Another great post from Sue Dengate at the Food Intolerance Network, highlighting the dangers of sulphite preservatives and the importance of avoiding products containing sulphites. This is particularly relevant if you are prone to asthma or other respiratory issues.

Sulphite preservatives (220-228) are the most dangerous additives in our food supply. 30 years ago, the US FDA banned sulphites in most fresh foods after a number of asthmatics died after eating fresh foods preserved with sulphites in restaurants.

I really like this year's R U OK theme..."There's More to Say After R U OK?" The resources are fabulous, I reckon they should be built in to school programs, management courses, parenting classes etc. Valuable life skills that don't always come naturally to everyone.

By genuinely asking β€œAre you OK?” and being prepared to have regular meaningful conversations you can help someone who might be struggling to feel supported when confronted with challenges in life whether at home, work, school or on the sporting field.

You don’t have to be an expert to keep the conversation going, learn what to say next in our FREE conversation guide available at www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask
