Most guidelines tell you to start thinking about cardiac screening around age 45.

But the reality is far more complex.

Many people only discover they have heart disease at the moment of a heart attack — often with no symptoms beforehand. And these aren’t always individuals with unhealthy lifestyles. Plenty of fit, seemingly low-risk adults can still have underlying cardiovascular issues that routine check-ups miss.

That’s because some of the strongest predictors of early heart disease go undetected without deeper investigation, including:
Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH): A genetic condition that elevates cholesterol from birth.
ApoB: A better measure of the particles that drive plaque formation.
Subclinical plaque: Early artery plaque build-up that won’t appear on standard blood tests.
Age is one factor — but biology, genetics, and early plaque development matter just as much.

Earlier cardiac screening can help identify risks long before symptoms appear, giving you the opportunity to make informed, preventative choices.

Medicine has evolved — but most health checks haven’t.

Today, we can detect many diseases long before symptoms appear. Yet many routine check-ups only identify issues once symptoms appear.

HealthScreen closes that gap with advanced imaging, comprehensive biomarker analysis and a physician led program — all in a single day.

It’s time for your health check to evolve with the future of medicine. Learn more at healthscreen.com.au

Researchers have developed a compound that extends lifespan in yeast, this new finding offers fresh insight into how aging works at the cellular level.

Rapalink-1, builds on rapamycin, a molecule that has already shown lifespan-extending potential. In this new study, Rapalink-1 helped yeast cells live longer by influencing TORC1, a key pathway involved in cell growth and aging.

It’s early research, but promising: one more piece of evidence that aging is not just time passing, it’s a biological process that we may be able to influence.

While there’s no “longevity pill” yet, studies like this expand our understanding of how aging works, and what future therapies could target.

Curious how your cellular health and biological age are tracking and how emerging science might apply to you?

Did you know that Insulin resistance can develop silently for years before diabetes is diagnosed? The earlier it’s identified, the more effectively it can be managed.

At HealthScreen, we measure markers like HbA1c to uncover early signs of metabolic change and help you take proactive steps for better long-term health.

Our doctors take the time to explain your results, identify underlying causes, and work with you to improve insulin sensitivity through personalised lifestyle and nutrition changes.

Prevention starts with understanding your risk.

Can eating less actually help you live longer?

For decades, scientists have explored how reducing calories influences the biology of aging.

Animal studies show clear benefits: longer lifespans and fewer age-related diseases.

Now, human research is starting to echo the same signals.
A landmark study published in Nature Aging (2023) found that adults who reduced their calorie intake by around 12% for two years showed:

✅ Lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and inflammation
✅ Improved insulin sensitivity
✅ And a 2–3% slower pace of biological aging, measured by DNA methylation markers

While modest, these results reveal something powerful — how we eat can directly influence how our cells age.
It’s a reminder that longevity isn’t only measured in years, but in biology.

With the right data, we can learn how our bodies are truly aging and what might help slow the process.

Your heart health is more than just your cholesterol.

At HealthScreen, we use a comprehensive approach to identify risk early and help prevent disease before symptoms appear.
Here’s what we test:

🔹 Lipid Profile – baseline cholesterol and triglyceride levels
🔹 ApoB – a stronger predictor of atherosclerotic heart disease
🔹 CT Calcium Score – imaging that measures plaque build-up in your coronary arteries

Together, these tests create a personalised risk profile.
All completed in one day, under one roof, with a dedicated practitioner by your side.

In a new finding published in Nature Communications, scientists discovered that a common oral bacterium, Streptococcus mutans, can colonise the gut and produce a compound called imidazole propionate (ImP).

🧬 Why It Matters
This compound doesn’t stay in the gut, it travels through the bloodstream, crosses into the brain, and damages dopamine-producing neurons. These are the very cells that die in Parkinson’s disease, leading to symptoms like tremor, rigidity, and slowed movement

✨ The Breakthrough
For the first time, researchers mapped the exact bacterial pathway (UrdA–ImP → mTORC1 activation) that drives this damage.

💡 The Hope
This opens new doors for prevention and treatment: future therapies could target the gut microbiome, not just the brain.
