Our strength training programs run to school terms.

We push hard and focus on getting stronger as the weeks go by.

After each program we have 1-2 weeks of recovery.

Sometimes it’s lighter weights and body weight sessions, sometimes it’s pilates and other times it’s pure stretching.

This time it is stretching and mobility.🙆‍♂️

We are all feeling the effects of winter, the tightness and tension from the cold months.

We need a stretch!

After 2 days, the body feels lighter.🤩

It’s a reset for mind and body and next week we start term 3.

Deload week commences - higher reps and lighter weights and then it’s progressive overload for the rest of the term.

What a great morning to finish off our term 2 program!

So many new personal bests from lots of our clients for bench press, squats, RDL’s and db chest press.

These girls today did their best lifts on Romanian deadlifts.

Showing up and being consistent brings progress and if you’re not progressing you’re not getting stronger!

Don’t be afraid to lift heavy.

You build up to it, it doesn’t happen overnight , it’s a process .

I get so much satisfaction seeing this kind of progress knowing that even 1 year ago these numbers were very different.

A common complaint I hear from women over 50 is that they have put on weight and don’t really know why.

Then they try to lose weight with no success.

There are many reasons we put on weight as we age but one big factor is losing muscle mass and being under muscled.

This combined with eating under the amount you should be to fuel your body.

This sends the body into a state of stress as it’s simply not getting the energy it needs.

Then of course it’s what you put in your mouth- the quality of the food ( whole foods vs processed food ratios)

These were Jane’s top issues and we fixed them as we worked together to improve how her body used energy.

We improved her nutrition by balancing her macro nutrients and meal planning.

She worked consistently in the gym and put on muscle and this helped her to be able to eat more and not put on weight.

Jane is strong and fit with good daily habits in place and I’m so glad that she rang me that day to organise a trial week.

She hasn’t looked back and continues her healthy lifestyle practises that she has learnt and adopted from her time at BodyVision.

Body composition should be the goal for women rather than fixating on weighing and a number on the scales.

You’ll be miserable if all you do is focus on the number you were in your 20’s.

Do yourself a favour and get to the gym and lift some heavy weights each week.

Look at the major drop of body fat from right to left in these photos!

There is only 1 kg difference between these photos but a HEAP of fatloss and therefore body composition changes.

It’s so important to take photos and measurements as well as tracking weight on the scales when starting a workout program and/or diet.

You would be really disappointed in just losing 1 kg if all you did to measure your success was weighing yourself.

I think that even ditching the scales is sometimes a good idea.

To create change in fat and muscle ratios you need weight training and a good nutrition plan to follow whether you are wanting to tidy it up and grow some muscle or get rid of some fat once and for all.

look at the amount of fat lost in the stomach area and cellulite off the legs.

You’d be very happy with this result wouldn’t you?

Lose the fat the right way, lean up your body by building muscle and dieting the fat off to reveal the muscle underneath.

If all you’re doing is slashing calories or dropping food groups then you’ll just be a smaller version of yourself but you’ll be skinny fat with less muscle and more fat.

Then you’ll put more fat back on afterwards because the food intake was way lower than your body could sustain.

I specialise in getting women leaner, stronger and healthier not to mention sexier for the hotter months so they don’t have to hide under layers of clothing.

This is Jenny at 65 years of age.

LOOK AT THE CHANGE OF BODY COMPOSITION!

Less fat more lean muscle💪

Jenny works out 4 times a week and has done for many years.

What made the biggest difference was her commitment to her deficit/diet.

She lost 5 kgs and 38 cms from around her body.

5cms off her waist

4cms belly button

9.5cm hips

9.5cms glutes

1.5cm each leg

1 cm off each arm

This is a loss of body fat mostly and very little muscle lost.

When you diet the sustainable way, you keep your muscle and lose predominately fat because your body isn’t starved of energy and nutrients.

If in a very low eating pattern the body senses it’s not getting enough and it will compromise your ability to lose fat.

Instead, it will lose water, organs will shrink to adapt and muscle will reduce.

We didn’t compromise Jenny”s body, we worked WITH her body to make sure she was not in a stressed state.

65 years of age requires a different approach and recovery is one of the considerations.

Jenny is a big inspiration at BodyVision.

She consistently puts in the effort and her goal is to not end up a statistic.

She wants to be as healthy, strong and active as she can be in her senior years and she will with her positive attitude and zest for life!

The biggest plus is that she has maintained her weight for the last 3 months as we have adjusted her food intake slowly so her body gets used to more and more food without putting the fat back on.

I just love seeing these changes in my clients.

If you’re stuck in unhealthy cycles and you can see it and want to create change -then, most likely there needs to be a level of sacrifice somewhere in your life.

Whether it’s stopping the weekend binges or nightly glasses of wine or just moving more or hitting the gym- the action needs to be taken or you risk staying in the unhealthy cycles for years to come and that will continue to feel terrible.

If you want something bad enough, you’ll make yourself a priority.

Number 1 priority!

No guilt, just action.

When you put the work in for yourself day in day out you are going to reap the rewards!

You’ll feel so much confidence and self respect, you’re going to be so proud of yourself for the work you’ve put in.

You’re going to up-level BIG TIME💪

The people in your life will benefit from your ‘up-levelling’ because you will have more to give them and they will feel inspired and proud of you.

TIME TO DO SOMETHING FOR YOU.

NO MORE SUGAR CRAVINGS

No more blood sugar crashes in the afternoon.

Eat food that physically and mentally satisfies you.

What kinds?
85% whole foods in the way of fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, dairy, bone broth, good quality bread, rice, oats etc and then SOME of the time, eat a nice piece of cake or cookie or dessert etc.

As long as the nutrient dense food is what you eat most of, the 1-2 ‘treats’ in the week won’t affect your weight.

Look at how many meals you eat in a week and 1 ice cream is not going to make a difference.

As soon as your brain knows you’re depriving it of the fun stuff, it will focus on that food.

I was talking to someone the other day about eating good quality ‘sweets’

We both agreed that we had to look at it as ‘worth it’ for us to go for it or we just wouldn’t bother.

I’ll eat a piece of cake if I know it’s home made.

First I’ll see if it’s one of my favourite kinds of cake and then I’ll weigh up whether I think it’s worth it.

If I like the look of it you bet I’m going to have it and not feel guilty over it.

I feel satisfied after I eat something I love and then I know when to stop.

That way I don’t feel deprived.

If I see something that’s highly processed (hello Cherry ripe 🍒)and it’s not my thing, I’ll pass.

I’m pretty fussy when it comes to the kind of sweets I’ll eat and it has to feel good and satisfying to eat it otherwise I can leave it.

When you have balanced blood sugar ( eating the good nutrition and balanced through the day), then you eliminate the cravings.

When the cravings aren’t strong anymore, you can come from a place of control and then decide whether that ‘sweet’ or savoury option infront of you is something you really want or can pass on.

THIS IS TAKING BACK YOUR FOOD FREEDOM AND CONTROL.

Food no longer controls you and that is a wonderful feeling!

Would you like to be able to eat more without putting on weight?

Today I had a coaching call with a client who has been working on weight loss and building up her body’s ability to use more calories/ energy.

These are 2 very different priorities and require different processes- fat loss phase and reverse dieting.

We talked about the amount of food she was able to eat a year ago compared to now -she is able to comfortably eat now what felt like too much back then.

Fast forward to now, she is 7 kgs lighter, has more muscle mass and is comfortably eating that amount and maintaining her weight.

She is able to go out for dinners. Parties ,weekends away and holidays eating around this amount and still having a good time.

Not having to miss out on too much and ultimately stay the same weight.

Her body has adapted and instead of getting used to low amounts of food, it has gotten used to more food and more energy and this in turn has made her feel healthier and happier.

Her body feels safe because we have created that safety with energy. balanced nutrition, the right amount of food and food with high nutrients.

Meet Yifat.

She is a client who has done everything I’ve coached her to do with minimal fuss and 100% effort.

As a result, she has reached her goals to this point.
She would have been described as ‘skinny fat’ when she first started weight training.

With nutrition changes and focus on lifting progressively heavy weights, she lost 10 cms around her belly button, 5 cms off her chest and waist, 9 cms off her hips, 6 cm off right leg and 8 cms off her left and 1 c/m off each arm.
This was a 5 kg loss and 51 cms in overall measurements .

She is much leaner with more muscle and less fat.

No more skinny fat for Yifat, she is a leaner version of herself and is now comfortably fitting into smaller size jeans than ever before.

Her goal now is to keep building more muscle do that she can become more defined and have all the benefits that increased muscle brings in the areas of health and longevity.

Fuelling your body to run all the functions it performs is a responsibility.

Your body and mind need energy to perform and if they don’t get that energy, you won’t feel your best.

If you are under-eating or eating too much processed food or starving yourself then bingeing at night or on weekends, your body will pay for it.

Maybe not straight away but it will definitely catch up with you as it did for me and 100% of my weight loss clients.

Your body feels safe if blood sugar is balanced and hormones are being made and are effective rather than unbalanced.

Have you ever thought of the effects of long term low energy?

Maybe it shows up as losing patience.

Maybe it’s being in a more anxious state through the day.

It might be the inability to think clearly.

It could be the inability to handle stress at work or in relationships.

I have had many clients tell me how improved their ability to handle stress is once they know how and what to eat.

I’ve had girls tell me they are way less anxious and that’s just the result of eating more nutritious food.

It doesn’t just show up physically.

If we don’t get enough fuel , we react differently in life and that impacts all areas of us.

I have educational components to my coaching and I bring them out not only to educate but to help clients with the barriers and stumbling blocks that inevitably crop up as we go through the program.

You see, when starting your weight loss journey, a lot of little gremlins hiding in the closet come out when you least expect them to.
