A fantastic GP education seminar was enjoyed by all last night at the Box Hill Golf Club. Melbourne Breast and Endocrine Surgeons, including myself, spoke on our approach to mastalgia and other common breast symptoms, advances in minimally invasive breast surgery, anaplastic large cell lymphoma, and reducing the risk of breast cancer. Radiologist Daniel Lee spoke on contrast enhanced mammography, breast density and risk assessment.

It was great to put so many faces to the names of GPs I’ve worked with over the years.

A special thank you to Mitcham Private for hosting, Imaging Associates, Volpara Solutions and Hologic for sponsoring the event and an EXTRA special thank you to Julie from Pink Hope for sharing her story.

Two of my (now media darling) patients have helped raise $1.35 MILLION DOLLARS for a great cause!!!!! Well done Pink Bun team!

And still counting! Thank you for the overwhelming for our Pink Bun campaign. We smashed our initial target of $1.2 million, and we are still waiting on tins arriving from some Bakers Delight bakeries. We hope to raise even more funds to allow us to continue providing support to all Australians affected by breast cancer.

This is an incredibly insightful and useful tool for understanding a very complex area - medical billing of private patients. It’s balanced between specialist and patient concerns. Well done Kate Aubusson and The Age.

Why do we have out-of-pocket costs for specialist services? Who decides what patients pay? What are rock star specialists? What’s an appropriate fee and when are specialists gouging patients?

I can only agree, agree and agree. Beautifully said Professor Woo.

Two tweets describing deep concern about patients turning to crowdfunding to cover the costs of surgical treatment triggered a storm of abuse.

It can't be easy trusting a stranger when your world turns upside-down at the end of a needle biopsy and a diagnosis of cancer. Yet trust is what I ask my patients to do when I lay out the plan to maximise their chances of defeating the enemy within.

We believe all Australians should have access to information and support when they are diagnosed with breast cancer, which is why we are developing a plan to support people with a disability who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. To do this we need help – if you or someone you know has a disability and has been diagnosed with breast cancer, we want to hear from you.
