Our myotherapy team had an excursion to the amazing exhibition in Docklands recently, and we are still blown away!
Body Worlds is a real anatomical specimen experience, and here are our top take aways from the visit:
💪When you ask us “which muscle are you on” our answer is an educated guess.
We have years of experience and study that has equipped us to confidently work with our clients and their bodies. Our muscles are upon layers and layers of each other, not to mention the skin, adipose tissue and connective tissue in between! When you ask us this, there’s usually multiple answers!
🧠The more you learn about the human body, the less you realise you know.
Human anatomy is incredibly complex, and while our visit to this exhibition highlighted our confidence to identify muscles, we were completely taken back by how much we didn’t know about other systems in the body. Every inch of ourselves are made up of complex, incredible structures, and we will never know absolutely everything. Instead, we value collaborating with other healthcare professionals.
🤲Manual therapy affects more than muscles and tendons.
Our aim of using manual therapy as a tool is not to mechanically “release” your muscles or “realign” your spine. The power of touch has an affect on multiple systems of the body, especially the nervous system which impacts multiple systems of the body.
🩻There is so much variability in human anatomy from person to person. Textbooks and diagrams do not do justice to what we actually are like under the skin. We are not a one size fits all, and similar pain or symptoms may be as a result of different reasons in person to person.
❤️Anatomy is pretty f***ing awesome!
Self explanatory.
