The MLMC team wrapped up the Year of 2023 with management of a severe case (5 year old boy with acute severe respiratory distress due to covid infection). The boy was stable when ambulance came. The hard training, regular review and preparation for urgent cases did help. We will continue to try our best to provide holistic care.

Attending the meeting with colleagues; Dr David Hiep Pham and Ms Bronwyn Halfpenny MP MP ; Victorian State Minister Mary-Anne Thomas MP and Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Andrew Giles MP to discuss about health care issues in the northern area.
Many issues were discussed for eg: shortage of doctors, doctor training, IMGs, funding for health care... The Australian and Victorian government are very committed to ensure health care practitioners have the world class support they need to do their work.

High risk for worsening asthma. Watch out, talk to your doctor. If severe shortness of breath, use Ventolin or Asmol or Symbicort and call ambulance. Use ventolin with spacer/mask or nebuliser are recommended in severe cases.

In Nov 2016, after a severe thunderstorm, Melbourne saw an unprecedented surge in asthma and respiratory distress. Nine deaths were attributed to the event.

Due to increased thunderstorm activity the forecast risk of thunderstorm asthma has increased to high in the Mallee District. This is in addition to the high-risk forecast in Wimmera District.

This increases the chance of people experiencing asthma symptoms and breathing difficulties due to high grass pollen levels combined with thunderstorms.

Things you can do to help stay safe:
- Be alert to your local weather conditions and be prepared for thunderstorms and strong winds.
- Go inside and keep windows and doors closed, before and during any storms.
- Have your asthma medication with you at all times.
- Call NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 60 60 24 if you experience mild asthma symptoms and need medical advice.
- If your condition is urgent, not improving or getting worse, call Triple Zero (000). Call Triple Zero (000) if someone is not breathing.
