In the words of our director, Sharon, 'It has been an enormous privilege to have been a part of so many lives and to have been able to support and provide relief to so many so they can enjoy their little ones.'

Whilst it is not viable for us to remain open at this time, we will continue to try to find a way forward for helping families through colic. Our passion for helping families be families remains the same.

The gastrocolic reflex may be the reason your baby pulls away from the breast or bottle and becomes fussy after sucking for a short time. As your baby sucks, this reflex will cause the intestinal wall to contract in wave-like motions, pushing food along the intestinal tract. It may result in your baby having a bowel movement immediately after feeding, or they may react by fussing, crying, and refusing to feed. Some babies may be very sensitive to this reflex and may experience pain until a bowel movement or gas is passed. Generally, the reflex will become weaker over time, and the time between bowel movements and feeds will increase. Does your baby pull away from the breast or bottle and fuss after sucking for a short time?

Should I see my GP if my baby is showing signs of colic?! 👇

Many factors can contribute to colic-like symptoms in your baby. Typically, it can result from swallowed air or gas in the intestine, an inability to digest milk protein, or from overfeeding. Although diet or allergies are seldom responsible, if you are unsure why your baby is distressed, it's important to see your GP.

While lengthy periods of crying are not harmful, they can be stressful for both the baby and the caregiver, so it's important to have your baby examined to rule out any underlying medical causes. Babies who experience feeding difficulties or frequent vomiting along with difficulty gaining weight should be properly diagnosed before considering dietary changes or medications.

Understanding your baby's bowel movements can be confusing, but we're here to help 💩👇

Did you know? Breastfed babies are rarely constipated and going 7-10 days without a poo is normal since most feeds are used up without much leftover.

If your baby hasn't had a motion for 2-3 days (or 7-10 days if breastfed), is straining or crying when passing motions, and has firm, pebble-like poo, they might be constipated.
