Interesting study in Journal of Vascular Surgery Venous and Disease Disorders. The below is an abstract and conclusion if lymphatic function before or after venous disease. The involvement of swelling in all cases made a good point about the severe twisting bulging of veins and the pressure this places on the lymphatic system to function close to the area. More studies needed a good case to look after legs and lymphatics. I will add a link to full pdf bottom of post.
โABSTRACT
Objective: We used near-infrared uorescence lymphatic imaging in a pilot study to assess the lymphatics in pre-
ulcerative (C2-C4) venous insuf ciency and determine whether involvement and/or degradation of lymphatic anatomy or
function could play a role in the progression of chronic venous insuf ciency. We also explored the role of lymphatics in
early peripheral arterial diseaseโ.
โConclusions
The present pilot study has demonstrated the use of NIRF-LI to image the lymphatic anatomic structure and propulsatile function in pre-ulcerative (C2-C4) venous insufficiency. The imaging findings showed that the anatomy and function generally degraded with the severity of venous insufficiency. Whether lymphatic insufficiency is causative or a result of venous insufficiency or develops from other mechanisms remains to be elucidated in future studies.โ
