Did you know? 💡
Your brain and ovaries work together in hormonal partnership during your cycle.
The pituitary gland in your brain releases hormones that signal the ovaries to begin preparing an egg. In response, the ovaries produce hormones like oestradiol and progesterone, which guide each phase of the cycle.
Before ovulation, oestradiol helps create fertile cervical mucus to assist s***m in reaching the egg, and helps prepare the uterus for pregnancy.
After ovulation, progesterone takes over, changing the cervical mucus and supporting the uterus in case fertilisation occurs. If pregnancy doesn’t occur, these hormone levels drop, leading to menstruation.
This perfectly timed communication between the brain and ovaries is what makes ovulation possible - an event which occurs only once per cycle, even if more than one egg is released!
By observing natural signs like cervical mucus, you can understand what’s happening inside your body.
The Billings Ovulation Method® uses these natural signs to help you identify your fertile and infertile phases.
