As a national body, the Federal Office would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging across Australia, with particular acknowledgement to the Greater Kulin Nation, the Traditional Owners of the lands where the Melbourne Office is located and the Ngunnawal people, the Traditional Owners where the Canberra office is located. We remain committed to healing work through Voice, Treaty, Truth and our Reconciliation Action Plan. https://www.anmf.org.au/about/reconciliation-action-plan

Making positive change for ANMF members at a federal level.

This week members took their direct experiences to Canberra, talking with the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Education Minister Jason Clare.

Student nurse Emily shared how the new prac payment for students enabled her to complete her final rural practical placement, while aged care nurses and direct care workers Steve and Bronwyn shared how aged care wage rises have provided relief from the cost of living while also reinforcing the need for aged care funding to reach the frontline.

These are wins secured through member voices, ANMF campaigning, and federal engagement.

Together we can ensure nursing, midwifery and aged care voices inform and advocate in national decision-making.

The safety of women and girls is not just a women’s issue, it affects everyone. Families, neighbours, communities, countries.

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women which marks the beginning of the United Nations 16 Days of Activism.

A woman should be safe no matter where she is, what she’s doing or what she’s wearing, including the online digital space.

Safe. Everywhere. Always.

Globally, almost one in three women have been subjected to physical and/or s*xual intimate partner violence, non-partner s*xual violence, or both, at least once in their life. 38% of women have experienced online violence and 85% have witnessed digital violence against others.

Nurses and midwives can witness and experience gendered violence in their professional and personal lives.

The ANMF is committed to supporting immediate and long-term measures to prevent violence against women and girls and improve gender equity, a deep driver for a healthier, safer and sustainable society.

As a member, please know you can always reach out to your ANMF branch for support, information and resources, including resources for colleagues and managers and information on accessing paid domestic violence leave.

Nurses, midwives and students can also access a free and confidential peer-to-peer counselling Nurse Midwife Health Program Australia

"Digital health is based on having expertise in nursing and midwifery. It is the connecting of wisdom. I think it is going to provide the mechanisms for us to be able to genuinely recognise the real value of nurses and midwives and then reward that accordingly," says Annie Butler, ANMF Federal Secretary, in this latest digital health podcast.

Explore, engage, and elevate with nursing and midwifery leaders discussing how curiosity and cultural evolution are driving the future of digital health in the professions.

Tonight, places around Australia are lighting up purple in support of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

Lighting up purple means standing in with those experiencing and caring for those with pancreatic cancer. It is also a tribute to the many loved ones who have been lost. Shining purple, they also illuminate awareness for the symptoms that can be hard to pinpoint. Early detection can save lives.

Look out for:
- Nausea
- Loss of appetite
- Jaundice (yellow skin of eyes)
- Abdominal or back pain
- Diabetes (new or hard to manage)
- Fatty stools
- Unexplained weight loss
- Persistent itchiness
