Is hand-washing better for stopping infection? When are gloves best?
Are nurses, midwives and direct-care workers using gloves when they don't need to?

New research from School of Nursing and Midwifery - Edith Cowan University examines the lack of evidence-based guidelines for the use of non-sterile gloves in healthcare and how this may be impacting patient outcomes, with some interesting results.

RN's are already working with medications for patients with the new RN prescriber role providing “an extra tool in the toolkit” for registered nurses, says Corinne Dunningham, an emergency nurse practitioner (NP) and La Trobe University Course Coordinator for the Graduate Certificate in RN Prescribing.

Nurses, midwives and direct care workers face microbial resistance in hospitals, aged care and other health settings.

If nurses, midwives and direct-care workers are unable to afford to live near where they work, hospitals and aged care homes will struggle.

Priced out with high rents and housing prices, unable to save for a deposit, and enduring long, draining commutes on top of their skilled, demanding work, our members across Australia are reporting their struggles with housing affordability.

In a system that works for investors, not essential workers, it's time to address tax concessions that are effectively pricing workers out of housing.

Can you imagine the daily grind of finishing a 15-hour shift with a 90-minute commute? This is the reality facing essential workers like nurses who are often being priced out of the communities they work in.

This needs to change, and the best way to win change is to join your union and fight for both better wages as well as housing tax reform, including:

⭐ limit negative gearing tax breaks to just one investment property
⭐ reduce the Capital Gains Tax discount from 50% to 25%
⭐ grandfather existing arrangements for five years
