Women's Health East Equality, empowerment, health and wellbeing for all women In addition Women's Health East receives funding for specific projects.

Women’s Health East is a regional women’s health promotion agency working across the Eastern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne. We work with stakeholders to build the capacity of services and programs in the region to ensure they optimally address issues affecting women. Women’s Health East works predominantly in gender-based health promotion, which involves:

- Providing leadership around women’s health issues of regional significance and facilitating integrated responses
- Working in partnership with local governments, health and community agencies and other stakeholders to promote gender-based health promotion and service delivery, and to improve service system access and responsiveness for women
- Shaping responses to the promotion of women’s health and wellbeing through research, advocacy and consultancy
- Providing information and advice to key stakeholders in order to raise awareness of health and wellbeing issues experienced by women and to promote women’s health and wellbeing
- Delivering training and education programs for our partner organisations on women's health issues and gender sensitivity in planning and service delivery. Women’s Health East also works directly with women in order to ground our work and to:

- Understand women’s health and wellbeing issues
- Support and strengthen our health promotion
- Identify and inform responses to service system gaps

The organisation is a not-for-profit incorporated association, and receives the majority of its funding through the Department of Health. This funding comes from a variety of sources including philanthropic trusts, community grants and other areas of government including local government. Welcome back to our 9-part series sharing key insights from our You Can Ask That webinar. Today's topic: Barriers to reporting for people of colour

Not everyone feels safe reporting harassment.

Cultural exclusion, subtle racism, and a lack of trust in workplace systems can silence people of colour.

This clip explores why culturally safe and inclusive systems are essential, and what workplaces can do to build them.

The Inquiry into Women’s Pain has shone a light on the realities many women and girls face when seeking care - stories of pain being dismissed, diagnoses delayed, and barriers that make accessing treatment harder than it should be.

Through the voices of over 13,000 women, girls, carers, and health professionals, the findings are clear. So, today we’re sharing the key learnings.

We look forward to working with our partners to bring these recommendations to life - so that every woman and girl can access the care and respect she deserves.

Welcome back to our 9-part series sharing key insights from our You Can Ask That webinar. Today's topic: Cultures of Bystander Action.

Calling out inappropriate behaviour can be difficult without support.

To shift workplace culture, we need environments where people feel safe to speak up. That requires strong leadership, accessible reporting processes, and visible encouragement at every level.

Watch this clip to hear why support systems are essential to building a culture of respect.

Women’s Health East welcomes the release of the Victorian Government’s Inquiry into Women’s Pain Report 2025.

As part of this process, we engaged with women from key priority groups, including women from migrant and refugee backgrounds and women with disabilities, who bravely shared their stories.

We thank the women who contributed their lived experience. Their courage and generosity will help shape meaningful system change.

We look forward to working on the report’s recommendations to help ensure all women receive timely, respectful, and equitable care.

Welcome back to our 9-part series sharing key insights from our You Can Ask That webinar.

Today’s topic: Microaggressions in the workplace. They may seem small, but microaggressions accumulate over time.

Subtle slights, everyday sexism, and inappropriate jokes are more than just uncomfortable moments. They reinforce inequality and contribute to unsafe environments.

Microaggressions can be:
• Interrupting or talking over women in meetings
• Dismissing someone’s ideas until repeated by another colleague
• Making “compliments” that rely on stereotypes
• Assuming gender roles in tasks or leadership
• Jokes that minimise or ridicule lived experiences

This clip explains why recognising and addressing microaggressions is essential to building respectful workplaces.

Women’s Health East’s Claire Butselaar was invited to write for Diversity Council Australia, spotlighting an issue that’s still too often overlooked: menopause in the workplace.

Menopause is not just a health topic - it’s a workplace equity issue.

We launched our How to Create a Menopause-Friendly Workplace* resource in 2023, and have been advocating ever since for workplaces to better support employees at this stage.

As Claire highlights, supporting menopause in the workplace isn’t just a women’s issue - it’s a public health and equity issue. Let’s recognise that health, work, and gender are interconnected, and ensure that workplaces support the wellbeing of all employees.

October is Mental Health Awareness Month - and this final week is a timely reminder to pause, check in, and connect. Whether that’s reaching out to a friend, joining a local event, or simply sharing space with others.

Connection plays a vital role in mental wellbeing. So if you’ve been meaning to catch up with someone, now is the perfect time.

Last week at Care4Carers we were joined by the wonderful Vasudha, who guided us through some relaxing music-based activities with her harp — and we even enjoyed a soothing guitar sing-along together.

It was such a lovely, calming session and great to see everyone connecting and taking time for themselves. We can’t wait to see you all again this Thursday!

✨ It’s not too late to join us — new participants are always welcome.
